Russian troops race against time, continuously setting records in just one day

Russian advances in Donetsk over the past 24 hours have seen their advantage on the battlefield increase by the hour, while the encirclement around Pokrovsk is gradually closing.

The Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) occupied 110 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory in just one day, thereby setting another record in terms of offensive operations, which normally takes them at least 5-6 days to achieve such results (under the same conditions as the RFAF organizing the offensive).

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), this is the most significant step forward for the RFAF since early May 2024. In recent months, the RFAF has continuously accelerated its control of Ukrainian territory. According to US experts, if this trend continues, it will take Moscow about two to three years to occupy all of Ukraine's current territory.

Meanwhile, The Washington Post, citing a Pentagon representative, noted that the Ukrainian army (AFU) is under threat of encirclement in Pokrovsk. Sources from the US Department of Defense said that it is clear that the AFU intends to turn Pokrovsk into the next "fortress" to be able to hold off the Russian advance for quite a long time, as was the case in Bakhmut in 2023.

However, constant Russian attacks on the supply routes leading to Pokrovsk had brought most of them to a standstill, significantly hampering the AFU's defense of Pokrovsk, something the Russians had failed to do during the earlier siege of Bakhmut.

In addition, taking advantage of the Ukrainian troops being drawn into the defense lines around Pokrovsk, the Russian troops suddenly broke through deep north of the city, threatening the entire AFU defense system on the northern line in the Pokrovsk area. At the same time, the Russian troops also organized an attack on the town of Rodinske and let forces break into the city, causing panic among the Ukrainian troops defending both inside and outside the city. While the Russian troops in the Pokrovsk direction continue to advance towards Dobropolye and further towards Druzhkovka with the prospect of reaching Kramatorsk, not forgetting about the encircled Pokrovsk, the RFAF units are now in the final stages of forming a very large encirclement, which will encompass the entire Pokrovsk-Mirnograd area.

In the Pokrovsk region, fierce fighting is taking place in the town of Rodinske, the cutting of the T0515 Dobropolye-Pokrovsk road, the main supply route for the Ukrainian garrison, and the increased Russian fire control of the Grishino area have effectively deprived the Ukrainian troops of the opportunity to withdraw from Pokrovsk.

According to information from the adviser to the head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Igor Kimakovsky, the enemy is not able to carry out evacuation along the available roads, since these roads are, in fact, occupied by Russian troops or controlled by fire.

Attempts to retreat across the fields were also unsuccessful for the Ukrainians, as Russian UAVs and artillery also had complete control. “After the successful operation to cut off the Pokrovsk-Dobropolye highway, the Ukrainian side was deprived of the opportunity to withdraw its garrison from Pokrovsk,” Kimakovsky was quoted as saying by TASS news agency.

Thus, the process of forming the RFAF encirclement of Pokrovsk is going very actively, the capture of Grishino, called the "key" of the entire Pokrovsk-Mirnograd region, will complete the closure of the "pot" as they did with Avdiivka, Ugledar or recently Kurakhove.

Grishino is currently controlled by the Ukrainian army, but the Russian army is approaching, but there is no exact information, everything is covered by the "fog of war". However, this will be the target that the RFAF will focus on attacking in the coming days.

Faced with the situation of Pokrovsk being suffocated by the RFAF, the AFU General Staff was forced to dispatch the 3rd Azov Brigade, which had just been supplemented with NATO troops and weapons, to stabilize the front near Pokrovsk, when the RFAF suddenly launched a strong attack on the Zaporizhia area.

The Russian Military Review website, citing a source close to the Russian Defense Ministry, said that Russian troops had entered Stepnogorsk, south of the center of the region. Notably, Ukrainian special forces, including the Ptah Madyar unit, which specializes in UAV warfare, were sent there in July, after Russian troops broke into the village of Kamenskoye.

During the assault on Kamenskoye, the RFAF first made a surprise crossing of the Yanchekrak River, then captured the village of Kamenskoye, which was built in the style of a town. From this bridgehead, the Russians then attacked the village of Plavni and controlled the road to the southern outskirts of Stepnogorsk.

Fighting is currently underway in the eastern part of the third district of Stepnogorsk, where the AFU had previously regained the northern part (district). But now the Ukrainian troops are forced to retreat to the main part of the town, with heavy losses, due to the active operations of the Russian tactical aviation in this area.
