Promoting Dong Ho paintings, the quintessence of Bac Ninh culture in Hanoi

On the morning of March 29, at the Ba Kieu Temple Flower Garden (Hoan Kiem District), many exciting activities took place within the framework of the program "Bac Ninh Cultural Quintessence - Colors of Dong Ho Paintings".

The program is jointly organized by the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province and the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO.

The highlight of the program is the introduction and promotion activities to UNESCO to include Dong Ho folk painting in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding of Humanity. The dossier of this heritage is being submitted to the Intergovernmental Committee of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for consideration in 2025.

Appreciating the precious values ​​of Dong Ho paintings and the urgency of protecting this heritage, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ngo Le Van said that in the context of strong modernization and globalization, Dong Ho paintings are still preserved as a symbol of identity and the desire to preserve traditional values. With natural materials, Dong Ho paintings are not only works of art, but also a "manifesto" about the Vietnamese people's lifestyle in harmony with nature. Each painting is a simple but profound story, reflecting the beauty of life, festivals, beliefs and aspirations for good, wealth, prosperity and peace.

The program attracted the attention of many people, domestic and international tourists to visit the exhibition areas, introducing products imbued with the cultural and historical identity of Bac Ninh - Kinh Bac land, such as: Dong Ho paintings, Phu Lang pottery, Xuan Hoi bamboo and rattan weaving, Dai Bai bronze casting, Phu Khe and Dong Ky fine art wood and many OCOP products of Bac Ninh province.

In addition, the program also has many activities introducing Quan Ho folk songs and typical traditional folk art forms of Bac Ninh.

Speaking at the program, Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Anh Tuan said that in 2009, Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk songs were recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. During the 15 years since its recognition, Bac Ninh province has implemented its commitments to UNESCO seriously, fully, responsibly and creatively.

Also according to Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Anh Tuan, in addition to protecting and promoting the value of cultural heritages in the province, Bac Ninh is committed to seriously, fully and responsibly implementing regulations to preserve and develop the craft of making Dong Ho folk paintings, thereby soon being recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in Need of Urgent Protection.
