On April 16, Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee held a conference to approve the Project on rearranging commune-level administrative units in the province.
Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council Bui Thi Quynh Van chaired the conference. Also attending were: Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation Dang Ngoc Huy; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hoang Giang; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Dinh Thi Hong Minh and members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and members of the Provincial Party Executive Committee.

According to the draft Project on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units in the province presented by the Department of Home Affairs, Quang Ngai province currently has a natural area of over 5,100 km2 and a population of about 1.3 million people. There are 13 district-level administrative units and 170 commune-level administrative units (including 144 communes, 17 wards, and 9 towns).
Following the Central Government's direction on reorganization, Quang Ngai has developed a project to reduce the number of existing communes by more than 67.6%. The project will be publicly announced for voter feedback on April 20.
Speaking at the conference, Provincial Party Secretary Bui Thi Quynh Van emphasized that the implementation of the arrangement of commune-level administrative units is to create new space and motivation for development while ensuring the goal of being close to the people in accordance with the direction of the General Secretary. The new commune will come into operation from July 1, the new province will come into operation from September 1.
From now until the above-mentioned time, there is still much work to be done. Therefore, districts, towns and cities need to urgently carry out the arrangement of commune-level administrative units according to the direction of the Central Government, carry out the arrangement of cadres under their authority according to the requirements and tasks set out and prepare well for the Party Congress at the commune level.
The project to reorganize commune-level administrative units will be consulted with voters and submitted to the Provincial People's Council for approval. Consulting voters is an important step in the process of establishing, dissolving, merging, separating, and adjusting the boundaries of administrative units at all levels according to regulations.
Regarding the arrangement of cadres working in districts, towns and cities, Provincial Party Secretary Bui Thi Quynh Van said that the province is currently allowing cadres at all levels to register their job wishes after the arrangement and streamlining of the apparatus, including the abolition of district-level governments and the merger of communes.
Accordingly, there are provincial and district officials who register to work in the commune as well as district officials who register to work in the province. This is the wish of the officials and civil servants. The Organizing Committee of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee synthesizes the report and submits it to the Standing Committee of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee for consideration and decision on work assignment.
