The recent heavy rains and floods have complicated the situation of the Vinh Dinh riverbank erosion, with more serious landslides and subsidence points appearing. People living along the riverbank are always worried about the risk of losing their houses and production land. Mr. Nguyen Thuan, Trieu Binh commune, said that in recent days, heavy rains in the commune combined with water flowing from upstream have caused the river water level to rise, making the situation of the Vinh Dinh riverbank erosion more serious. Many sections of the riverbank have eroded deep into the mainland, forming a large frog jaw; production land is gradually lost, many houses and residential roads are at risk of subsidence and collapsing into the river at any time. He, like many people living along the river, hopes that the State will pay attention and support the construction of solid embankments so that people can feel secure and stabilize their lives.

According to Chairman of Trieu Binh Commune People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Vu, the erosion of Vinh Dinh River bank through the commune has been happening for many years but this year it is very serious, causing damage to production and people's livelihoods. In particular, the recent rains and floods have caused 1,600 m of Vinh Dinh River bank through Trieu Binh Commune to erode; of which, the river bank through Quang Dien village is 800 m long, Quang Luong village is 500 m long and Van Hoa village is 300 m long. The locality recommends that all levels and sectors pay attention and soon allocate funds to build anti-erosion embankments to limit the loss of land and houses, ensuring safety for people.

The Vinh Dinh riverbank through Vinh Dinh commune also experienced serious landslides. The landslides were close to residential areas, the land was deeply eroded, forming frog jaws, many houses had cracked walls and collapsed foundations, threatening the lives and production of dozens of households. Mr. Nguyen The Hau, Chairman of Vinh Dinh Commune People's Committee, said that during the recent floods, the Vinh Dinh riverbank on Xuan - Quy - Vinh road through Lam Thuy and Kinh Duy villages had many more serious landslides and subsidence points, some of which were deep into the asphalt road; in particular, in the area in front of the monument of the Hero of the Armed Forces Le Thi Tuyet, the landslide continued to be deep into the edge of the asphalt road about 10 meters. The landslides affected dozens of households living in the riverside area. To ensure people's safety, the locality has erected barriers, put up warning signs, and evacuated people when there are floods; At the same time, forces were mobilized to use bamboo stakes and sandbags to temporarily reinforce three sections of the 86m long river bank.

Not only the Vinh Dinh river bank, the recent rains and floods have also caused landslides along the Dakrong river bank through Phu Thanh village, Huong Hiep commune, affecting cultivated land and residential areas with about 40 households; landslides on the river bank in Xuan Canh village, Dong Le commune, 200m long, 15-20m deep, directly affecting the lives of 6 households in this area; landslides on the Thach Han river bank through Duong Dai Thuan village, Trieu Binh commune, 500m long; landslides and subsidence of the Thach Han river embankment 1000m through Ai Tu commune...

According to statistics from the Quang Tri Province Civil Defense Command, from the end of October until now, the whole province has had 5,400 meters of riverbank eroded, concentrated in the communes of Tuyen Son, Dong Le, Vinh Dinh, Ai Tu, Hai Lang, Ben Quan, Phu Trach, Huong Hiep, Le Ninh, Hoan Lao, Cua Tung; affecting the lives and production of many households living along the river.

In order to cope with the increasing riverbank erosion, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province directed units and localities to urgently review all landslide sites, develop plans to evacuate people from dangerous areas; deploy fences, place warning signs, restrict people and vehicles from passing through dangerous areas; at the same time, research and propose to build a dike along the river to protect people's lives and property.
