The Vietnam Railway Authority has just submitted a document to the Ministry of Transport requesting appraisal and approval of the planning of the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh railway route.
According to the plan, the railway line will start at the connection point with the Chinese railway in Lao Cai province and end at Cai Lan station in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province.
The total length of the route is 447.66 km, passing through 10 provinces and cities: Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh.
On the planned route, there are 41 stations with about 145 bridges crossing major rivers such as the Red River, Lo River, Bach Dang River and highway overpasses such as Hanoi - Lao Cai, Hanoi - Hai Phong, Hai Phong - Quang Ninh, national highways and some provincial roads.
Based on the planning scheme, the consulting unit calculated the capital requirement to invest in this railway line at 183,856 trillion VND.
Vietnam Railways Department proposed that the railway line be invested in two phases. Phase 1 - by 2030, the investment will be implemented to build the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong section. Phase 2, the Hai Phong - Quang Ninh section will be studied and implemented after 2030 along with the investment roadmap of the Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh coastal railway.
