On June 29th, at the ICISE Center, the Vietnam Meeting of Scientists Association, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of France in Vietnam, organized the opening of an international conference with the theme: “From the Mekong to the Ocean: Connecting the Young Generation of High Schools in the LabelFranceÉducation Network”.

The conference took place over three days (June 29th to July 1st), bringing together nearly 90 delegates, including representatives from the French Embassy in Vietnam, the French Agency for Education Abroad (AEFE), the French Institute for Research and Development (IRD), as well as teachers and students from France, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. All participating students came from secondary schools belonging to the LabelFrancÉducation network – a global system of high-quality French-language schools managed by AEFE.

According to Professor Tran Thanh Van, President of the Vietnam Meeting of Scientists Association, the conference aims to connect French-speaking students in the region, strengthen educational friendship among countries, and respond to the 3rd United Nations Conference on the Ocean held in Nice (France). The overarching theme of the conference is the conservation of oceans and marine space.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Lam Hai Giang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province, emphasized that this conference is not only significant in terms of education but also contributes to strengthening cultural exchange, promoting understanding and connection among young generations within the LabelFranceÉducation network - a high-quality bilingual education initiative coordinated by AEFE. In particular, the event brings together students from three Southeast Asian countries: Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, nations with long-standing friendly relations and sharing the cultural and historical flow of the Mekong River.

“The conference is an opportunity for students to experience an international academic environment, develop global citizenship thinking, and share ideas on the conservation of the Mekong River and oceans. It is also an opportunity to inspire humanistic and scientific spirit and move towards a sustainable future,” Mr. Lam Hai Giang emphasized.

Also as part of the activities at ICISE, on the morning of June 30th, the Vietnam Science Meeting Association will collaborate with the Asia- Pacific Centre for Theoretical Physics (APCTP) to inaugurate the “Advanced School on Quantum Topological Materials”. The event will bring together 40 scientists and researchers from 10 countries, including the UK, Canada, Chile, Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, and Singapore.

A special highlight of the program is the direct teaching participation of Professor Duncan Haldane – the 2016 Nobel Prize winner in Physics.
On the morning of June 30th, Professor Haldane will meet with and share his inspiring insights with students attending the "From Mekong to the Ocean" conference. This is a valuable opportunity for them to get closer to the spirit of international scientific research and ignite their desire to conquer knowledge.
