On May 18, the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi held the launching ceremony of the new Bachelor's program - Teaching Vietnamese as a Foreign Language (under the major of Vietnamese Language and Vietnamese Culture).

The ceremony was attended by the leadership of the University of Foreign Languages, representatives of units in the school, representatives of partner units, along with a large number of teachers, Vietnamese and international students, parents and interested students.
In his opening speech, Dr. Do Tuan Minh, Chairman of the Board of the University of Foreign Languages, expressed his joy at the fact that on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its founding, the school introduced a completely new training program.
Sharing about the program development process, Dr. Do Tuan Minh emphasized: “With 70 years of experience in training and researching foreign languageeducation , the school has the foundation to strongly develop the program of teaching Vietnamese as a foreign language.
We will take full advantage of our foreign language training, international relationships, and 70 years of academic reputation to provide a quality learning experience for students in the new program.
The values that have made the school's brand in teaching foreign languages in the past will continue to be promoted in teaching Vietnamese to Vietnamese people, foreigners and overseas Vietnamese.

Introducing specifically the bachelor's program Teaching Vietnamese as a foreign language, Head of the Faculty of Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Languages and Cultures Tran Huu Tri said that the goal of the program is to train a team of teachers with in-depth expertise, understanding of Vietnamese culture and people, and at the same time having the ability to use foreign languages to teach, compare cultures and connect Vietnam with the world .
Graduates can take on many positions such as: Vietnamese teacher at home and abroad, translator-interpreter (with three orientations: translation, teaching, tourism), training specialist in enterprises, editor, office secretary...
A highlight of the program is that students have the opportunity to choose and study one of four foreign languages in depth, thereby expanding their ability to exchange and cooperate internationally.
At the event, many activities were held such as awarding scholarships to a former international student who studied Vietnamese at the school, launching the ULIS Vietnamese club and giving funding to support the school's activities to the club.

Speaking here, General Director of Hyundai E&C Vietnam Joohee Park affirmed that human resources with understanding of Vietnamese language and culture, and the ability to work in a multilingual and multicultural environment are essential for international businesses operating in Vietnam.
Mr. Joohee Park believes that graduates from this program will have many career opportunities at global companies, non-governmental organizations or embassies. In particular, the ability to use Vietnamese along with foreign languages such as English, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese will be a rare and valuable advantage in today's labor market.
Many statements from international experts and former students expressed their agreement with the direction of developing new training programs, saying that this is a timely step in response to the need for international integration, contributing to spreading Vietnamese language and culture to friends around the world.
After the launching ceremony, attendees experienced Vietnamese culture through many activities such as: Cuisine, word puzzles, taking photos with backdrops, painting conical hats, traditional costumes, playing folk games, taking photos with cultural themes...

The Bachelor's program in teaching Vietnamese as a foreign language was born in the context of Vietnam's increasing integration, attracting international students and spreading Vietnamese to the world, while meeting the practical needs of foreign experts, overseas Vietnamese and international businesses. This is the first program specializing in teaching Vietnamese as a foreign language, combining linguistic, cultural and experiential knowledge, with courses such as Discovering Vietnam, Vietnamese History through Photos, Vietnamese Cultural Foundations, etc. International students will be trained to level 5 in Vietnamese; Vietnamese students will reach level 4 in one of four foreign languages: English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, ready for the journey of teaching Vietnamese in the future. The admission target includes both Vietnamese and foreigners; in which foreigners need to achieve level 4 Vietnamese proficiency and meet specific conditions, while Vietnamese will be considered for admission according to the combinations in the Admissions Plan of the University of Foreign Languages - Vietnam National University, Hanoi. |
