Launch of Bangladesh-Vietnam Friendship Association

President of Bangladesh-Vietnam Friendship Association Shamsher M. Chowdhury delivered the opening speech at the event.

After more than a year, with the support and connection of the Vietnamese Embassy in Bangladesh, on March 13, the Bangladesh-Vietnam Friendship Society was officially established with members being former Ambassadors of Bangladesh to Vietnam; businessmen who are members of the Bangladesh-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry; some veterans who participated in the Bangladesh liberation war; some intellectuals, journalists, and artists. The Bangladesh-Vietnam Friendship Society is an open organization, continuing to provide information about the Society, attracting more Bangladeshi people to participate.

The Bangladesh-Vietnam Friendship Association has Ambassador Shamsher M. Chowdhury, BB, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs , former Ambassador of Bangladesh to Vietnam as its President; two Vice Presidents of the Association are the President and Vice President of the Bangladesh-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and the Secretary General is Ambassador M. Shahabullah, former Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Deputy Minister level), former Ambassador of Bangladesh to Vietnam.

In particular, the Advisor of the Bangladesh-Vietnam Friendship Association is Mr. Rased Khan Menon, Chairman of the National Assembly's Social Affairs Committee, President of the Bangladesh Workers' Party, former Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism of Bangladesh.

Speaking at the ceremony, President of the Association, Ambassador Shamsher M. Chowdhury, BB emphasized that the establishment of the Friendship Association not only shows the close friendship between Bangladesh and Vietnam but also shows that Bangladesh continues to make efforts to promote solidarity between the people of the two countries.

Mr. Shamsher M. Chowdhury, BB also shared his memories of Vietnam when he was young, which inspired him to join the fight for freedom and liberation of Bangladesh; his experiences in Vietnam as Ambassador to Vietnam from 1998 to 2002; his feelings and respect for the people and country of Vietnam.

With his love and affection for Vietnam as well as his enthusiasm to continue contributing to the friendship and prosperity of Bangladesh and Vietnam, especially promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges, he and his Bangladeshi friends have urged him to establish the Bangladesh - Vietnam Friendship Association.

Advisor of the Bangladesh-Vietnam Friendship Association Rased Khan Menon and a number of delegates attending the launching ceremony of the Association spoke, sharing their feelings for Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, as well as expressing their belief that the Friendship Association will promote its role in people-to-people relations, contributing to promoting the relationship between the two countries to continue to develop to a new height.

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury reviewed the important milestones in the relationship between Bangladesh and Vietnam over the past 50 years. He assessed Vietnam as one of the most dynamic countries in Asia, and he expected that with the participation of the Bangladesh-Vietnam Friendship Association, the relationship between the two countries in general and the two peoples in particular would increasingly develop, deepen and be more substantial.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Bangladesh Pham Viet Chien shared his joy at the establishment of the Bangladesh-Vietnam Friendship Association; congratulated the Association's President, Ambassador Shamsher M. Chowdhury, BB. The Ambassador highly appreciated the establishment of the Friendship Association at a very meaningful time in the Vietnam-Bangladesh relationship, the year of the 50th Anniversary of the official establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

On behalf of the Embassy, the Ambassador also expressed his confidence in the Association in implementing and organizing activities to connect and exchange the people of Bangladesh with Vietnam; supporting the introduction of the country, people, culture and achievements of Vietnam to the people of Bangladesh.

On the occasion of the launching ceremony, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga sent a congratulatory letter to the Bangladesh-Vietnam Friendship Association. The Ambassador said that the establishment of the Bangladesh-Vietnam Friendship Association is an important milestone in the Vietnam-Bangladesh relationship, contributing to the development of cooperation and friendship in general and people-to-people diplomacy between the two countries in particular, and hoped for the Association's effective cooperation in people-to-people diplomacy.

Authorized by the President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, at the ceremony, Ambassador Pham Viet Chien read the congratulatory letter to the Bangladesh-Vietnam Friendship Association from President Nguyen Phuong Nga. And on behalf of the Embassy, the Ambassador presented flowers to congratulate the members of the Friendship Association's Board of Directors.
