Real Madrid ready to sell Rodrygo: Arsenal secretly negotiating

VHO - Arsenal are said to have had preliminary talks with Rodrygo's representatives in recent weeks.

The Athletic recently reported that Spanish giants Real Madrid and new coach Xabi Alonso are willing to let striker Rodrygo leave if they receive a suitable offer.

Rodrygo has struggled for game time in recent months, making his first appearance in 53 days in the Club World Cup opener in Madrid on June 18. Since then, the Brazilian has been benched for the next three games, playing just 23 minutes in total.

The Athletic revealed that Rodrygo's father and agent, Eric Goes, had expressed his displeasure at his son's lack of playing time compared to superstar trio Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham. These complaints are said to have not been well received in Madrid.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are believed to have held preliminary talks with Rodrygo's representatives in recent weeks. However, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic , the Gunners' ability to sign a top left-winger like Rodrygo could depend on the departure of Gabriel Martinelli.

Speaking on The Athletic FC Podcast , Ornstein said: "If Martinelli leaves, then you can see them bringing in a top left winger. If Martinelli doesn't leave, I don't think so. We've talked and reported on players like Rodrygo and Anthony Gordon, I think it's a case of Martinelli leaving, I don't necessarily think it's a case of him staying."

Arsenal announced their first signing of the summer transfer window this week: goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea for £5m. Kepa joins the Gunners on a three-year deal and will serve as back-up to current number one David Raya.

In addition, Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi and Brentford's Christian Norgaard are also expected to be announced as Arsenal players in the coming days after the Gunners complete deals for the midfielder duo.

Links with Crystal Palace star Ebere Eze have also intensified in recent days, with reports suggesting Arsenal are weighing up a move for the England international.
