One-time social insurance withdrawal continues to decrease sharply

According to Vietnam Social Security, in the first 5 months of 2025, the number of people receiving one-time social insurance benefits continued to decrease and decreased sharply compared to the same period in 2024.

The report on the implementation of social insurance and health insurance policies in the first 5 months of 2025 by Vietnam Social Security shows that the number of people receiving one-time social insurance benefits continues to decrease and decrease sharply compared to the same period in 2024 (estimated decrease of more than 91 thousand people, equivalent to a decrease of 18.8%).

According to Vietnam Social Security, this is a positive signal showing that workers increasingly understand the meaning, superiority of the policy and benefits when participating in social insurance for 15 years according to the Social Insurance Law 2024. Thereby, it affirms that the Social Insurance Law No. 41/2025/QH15 has entered life even before the law took effect, creating more peace of mind and attachment for workers to the social security system.

In addition, the number of people participating in social insurance, health insurance, and unemployment insurance all increased compared to the same period in 2024.

It is estimated that by the end of May 2025, the number of people participating in social insurance will reach 19.56 million, an increase of 12% over the same period in 2024. Of which, the number of people participating in compulsory social insurance will be 17.43 million (an increase of 8.9%) and voluntary social insurance will be 2.13 million (an increase of 46.23%), the number of people participating in unemployment insurance will be estimated at 15.7 million (an increase of 9.86%), the number of people participating in health insurance will be 93.56 million, an increase of 3.24% over the same period in 2024.

By the end of May 2025, the entire Vietnam Social Security system is estimated to have resolved about 46,554 people receiving monthly social insurance benefits, an increase of 53.9% over the same period in 2024. Nearly 3.6 million people received sickness, maternity, and health recovery benefits; coordinated to resolve about 271,997 people receiving unemployment benefits and 6,094 people receiving vocational training support.

Notably, according to Vietnam Social Security, the number of people receiving pensions in the first months of 2025 increased sharply with about 27,255 beneficiaries in the first 4 months of 2025, an increase of 95.47% over the same period in 2024.

It is estimated that by the end of May 2025, Vietnam Social Security will have paid for nearly 80 million people to receive health insurance medical examination and treatment, an increase of 8.59% over the same period in 2024. The estimated amount of health insurance medical examination and treatment expenditure is 63,324 billion VND, an increase of 15.59% over the same period in 2024.
