'Giving wings' to mountainous agricultural products with e-commerce
Gia Lai is a land with many typical agricultural products. However, from highland specialties to standard products, there are still big challenges in consumption. In order to overcome this bottleneck, in recent years, the province has promoted digital transformation and the application of e-commerce in agriculture .
From cooperatives, enterprises to production households, many entities have begun to apply technology to production, traceability, and online sales. In particular, platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop have become new "market channels", helping to directly connect farmers with consumers.

One of the pioneers is Lam Anh Agricultural and Service Cooperative (Dak Doa district). The Cooperative has linked up with 37 coffee producers according to 4C standards, building the “Slar Land Coffee” brand to achieve 3-star OCOP, along with a line of paper filter coffee achieving 4-star OCOP. By using an electronic diary and publicizing product data on the website, consumers can easily trace the origin of each batch of coffee - a key factor to enhance value and trust in the market.
Not only cooperatives, large enterprises are also strongly participating in digital transformation. AgriS Gia Lai Agricultural Joint Stock Company is deploying sugarcane field management software, soil nutrient maps, drone applications and remote sensing technology in the entire raw material area of more than 15,000 hectares. Instead of manual recording, each sugarcane plot now has digital data on varieties, planting and harvesting times, technical investment, etc.
Similarly, Huy Vu Dried Beef One Member Co., Ltd. (Dak Doa district) has developed an online booth on the 3D platform, selling products through TikTok Shop and e-commerce fairs, expanding the consumption market from retail to wholesale distribution nationwide.
The initial success of the pioneering units has created a ripple effect, encouraging many other production households and cooperatives to actively learn, invest in improving product quality, building brands and joining e-commerce.
Support for mountainous agricultural products to "go public"
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai, Gia Lai province has so far issued 227 codes for growing areas with a total area of nearly 9,700 hectares and 38 codes for agricultural product packaging facilities for export. This is a mandatory condition for agricultural products to be listed on the market, while meeting increasingly stringent market requirements.
The province also speeds up the construction of an agricultural data system: from information on crops, livestock, raw material areas to traceability, service provision... Thereby creating a comprehensive digital platform, increasing the ability to interact between parties participating in the supply chain from farmers to export enterprises.
Thanks to quality goods, Gia Lai's e-commerce picture is getting better and better. In 2025, the province's e-commerce index increased by 9 places compared to 2024, reaching 5.6 points, ranking 37th out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide. This result comes from the active participation of the Department of Industry and Trade when supporting the construction of 265 e-commerce websites, 90 e-commerce platform accounts for 30 enterprises and cooperatives in the period of 2021 - 2024.
The livestream sales sessions on TikTok Shop organized by the Department also showed great potential. Typically, the "Gia Lai Agricultural Products" session in September 2024 reached nearly 800 orders in 4 hours, attracting 149,000 views and promoting to more than 5 million users.
On the side of the Ministry of Industry and Trade , the Ministry always strives to support localities in developing e-commerce. Recently, the Center for E-commerce and Digital Technology Development (Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade) coordinated with the Department of Industry and Trade of Gia Lai to organize a training course on "Enhancing business skills in the digital environment and effective livestream strategies". The training program also helps small businesses, cooperatives and individual households equip themselves with digital skills, from how to create videos, establish personal brands on TikTok, to closing strategies.
Despite the growth, e-commerce in Gia Lai still faces many barriers. Information technology infrastructure is still weak, human resources and infrastructure indexes are ranked 46/63 nationwide. The number of businesses with websites is still low, the rate of businesses bringing key agricultural products to the market is still modest, focusing mainly on fashion and beverages.
Logistics infrastructure is not yet well developed, warehouses are still small, delivery times are long, especially in remote areas. Low income also makes people not have the habit of online shopping, leading to limited sales through the platform.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Gia Lai, in the coming time, the province will synchronously deploy solutions to improve the e-commerce index. The focus is on training human resources, supporting businesses in applying new technologies such as AI, Big Data, and integrating non-cash payment systems.
At the same time, continue to support provincial businesses to connect with cross-border e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and Alibaba, build professional brands and expand international markets.
E-commerce is not only a technology story, but also the key to opening up new development space for agricultural products in the Gia Lai highlands. When products such as Glar coffee, Phuong Di Bee honey, Hoang Gia butter or Huy Vu beef jerky are present on digital platforms, that is when the value of agricultural products is enhanced and the people of the highlands have another way to enter the modern market. |
