Yen Chau district has more than 3,300 hectares of mango, the district with the largest and most delicious mango area in Son La province. In 2025, the total mango output of the district is estimated to reach over 26,000 tons, with many varieties favored by the market such as round mango, native stinky mango, Australian mango and Taiwanese mango (China).
Yen Chau is not only a key raw material area of Son La, but also the origin of the mango brand since the early 20th century. Yen Chau mango has a sweet taste, thin skin, beautiful shape and characteristic aroma, factors that help this product gradually affirm its position in demanding markets at home and abroad.
Building the "Yen Chau Mango" brand is not only a simple agricultural strategy, but also a long-term direction of the locality to increase the value of agricultural products and associate with sustainable development, especially in the context of increasing demand for traceability, standardization and product positioning.

Since 2017, Yen Chau district has organized the annual Mango Festival as a key activity to promote products, honor mango farmers and connect markets. This year, the festival takes place from May 30 to June 1 in Kha Village - Sap Vat Commune, where there are dozens of hectares of ancient mango trees and is located in the Yen Chau mango geographical indication area.
Ban Kha is not only famous for its hundreds of years old round mango trees but also preserves intact the traditional culture of the Thai people, from stilt house architecture, folk festivals to traditional crafts. This is the premise for Yen Chau to develop community tourism associated with typical agricultural products.
Taking place over 3 days from May 30 to June 1, this year’s Yen Chau Mango Festival includes a series of rich and attractive activities. Within the framework of the festival, visitors and investors will experience many attractive activities such as: mango picking competition, xoe dance, ethnic costume performance, traditional craft competition and visiting ancient mango gardens. A special highlight is the ceremony to announce the decision to recognize 5 Vietnamese heritage trees, including the ancient mango tree in Ban Kha.
In addition, booths introducing agricultural and handicraft products from communes and towns also contribute to connecting supply and demand, expanding the market for mango consumption and mango processed products.
The People's Committee of Yen Chau district said: Mango Festival is an opportunity to promote the brand "Yen Chau mango" and honor mango growers; contributing to introducing the land and people of Yen Chau to many friends and tourists inside and outside the province.
This is also an opportunity to promote products, connect trade, promote investment, promote production - consumption linkage; as a premise to promote tourism in Yen Chau district to develop commensurate with the potential and advantages of the district.
Identifying agricultural product branding as a vital direction in the context of increasingly fierce competition, Yen Chau district is focusing on expanding mango acreage according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, investing in improving the quality of varieties, processing and packaging processes, and boosting exports, aiming to build "Yen Chau Mango - a national agricultural product brand"...
In the coming time, the locality will continue to promote trade promotion activities, advertise at regional agricultural fairs and festivals, connect purchasing and processing enterprises with cooperatives and farmers, aiming to form a closed value chain for the mango industry. |
