Aryna Sabalenka made US Open history by becoming the first woman to successfully defend her title since Serena Williams in 2014. A convincing 6-3, 7-6(3) win over Amanda Anisimova capped an impressive season for the 27-year-old, who claimed her fourth Grand Slam title.
After a year of dominating the WTA rankings, Sabalenka has proven her superiority. In the last 11 Grand Slams, she has won four times, finished runner-up three times, reached the semi-finals three times and reached the quarter-finals once. "All those hard lessons were worth it," Sabalenka said, summarizing an extraordinary year in one sentence.

With four titles at the US Open and the Australian Open, Sabalenka is replicating Naomi Osaka's 2018-2021 record, but in a shorter period of time. Notably, this is also Sabalenka's 100th Grand Slam victory, with a win rate of 79.4%, second only to Iga Swiatek among active players.
Although Anisimova has a 6-3 head-to-head record against Sabalenka, this 10th meeting was something else entirely. In the past, Anisimova’s timing, clean strokes, and technique have often given Sabalenka trouble. In this final, however, Anisimova was constantly under pressure and made too many errors.
Anisimova finished the match with 29 unforced errors and 22 winners. Sabalenka, on the other hand, played more cautiously, hitting just one ace but hitting 13 winners and 15 unforced errors. Sabalenka converted five of her six break opportunities, a key factor in the victory.
"I have so much admiration for what you have achieved. Congratulations to you and your team, you are amazing," Anisimova told Sabalenka during the trophy presentation ceremony. The American also admitted that her rapid rise to No. 4 in the WTA rankings has been "a crazy journey".

The match started with some tense moments. At Wimbledon in July, Anisimova had lost all 12 games in her first Grand Slam final, and it looked like a repeat when Sabalenka was 2-0 up. However, Anisimova rallied and won two consecutive breaks to take a 3-2 lead.
Sabalenka quickly regained control, breaking serve a second time to level the score at 3-3. When Anisimova served in game 8, a double fault gave Sabalenka an opportunity, and the No. 1 seed capitalized to take a 5-3 lead and then sealed the win 6-3.
Winning the first set is key, especially at the US Open, where 28 of the last 30 women's champions have won the opening set.
In the second set, Anisimova continued to fight, leveling the score at 3-3 after falling behind. However, Sabalenka showed her resilience, breaking the game to take a 4-3 lead. When Sabalenka served the decisive serve in game 10, Anisimova fought back strongly to break and force the match into a tie-break.
In the tie-break, Sabalenka played solidly, winning all points on serve and earning two mini breaks, winning 7-3 and officially crowning the US Open champion for the second consecutive time.
