Why was Vietnam able to survive 1,000 years under Chinese domination? Who was the mystery of the wife who received special treatment from Ly Thai To? How did Ho Quy Ly actually establish a crown prince?...

In the flow of national history, many events and characters remain unknown, leaving questions without clear answers. The book Discovering Vietnamese History” by author Nguyen Thanh Tuyen, published by the Truth National Political Publishing House, is like a “key” for readers to open the door to the journey of explaining, recreating and feeling national history with a new and familiar approach.

The book is a collection of more than 30 articles distilled from the author's many years of research and journalism experience, most of which have been published on press media channels.

According to the publisher, the special point of the book lies in the author's choice of a popular historical narrative style, not too academic, not dry but still ensuring the reliability of historical events and figures. Through the book, readers can explore little-known stories, and at the same time explain some issues in ancient and medieval Vietnamese history that still have inconsistent opinions.

The book consists of four parts: “Imprints of famous people,” “In the harem,” “Some things to decode,” “Ancient people with many affairs.” Each story in the book is like a sharp slice of ancient and medieval Vietnamese history, from the imprints in the lives of famous people, to the secrets of the harem, strange events, mysterious cases or the strategic behavior of ancient people.

Readers will be surprised when they first encounter details rarely mentioned in textbooks, such as the tragic fate of the last queen of the Mac Dynasty, the strange scheme to establish a queen during the Dinh Tien Hoang Dynasty, or the story of the woman who once toppled the entire Ly Dynasty...

The appeal of “Discovering Vietnamese History” is also the simple, emotional writing style, close to a wide range of readers, especially young people. Many stories in the book make readers feel like they are reading a novel, while being equipped with more knowledge, evoking pride and a better understanding of their origins.

Author Nguyen Thanh Tuyen expressed his hope that the book will be somewhat useful to a wide range of readers. The stories in the book will contribute to stimulating readers to explore and understand more deeply about the history of Vietnam in the ancient and medieval periods, to love and be more proud of the country and people of Vietnam./.
