As reported, heavy rain and whirlwinds in recent days have caused many Ngoc Linh ginseng gardens in Tra Linh and Tra Cang communes (Nam Tra My district) to be severely damaged.
As of this morning, June 14, although the rain has decreased, strong winds are still raging in high mountainous areas such as Mang Lung (Tra Linh), Kiep Cang, Dum Rec (Tra Cang), making it impossible to access many ginseng gardens for inspection.
Mr. Tran Quang Tuan - owner of a ginseng garden in village 2 (Tra Cang commune) said that the whirlwind broke nearly 300 ginseng plants from 5 to 10 years old in his group's garden, estimated damage of about 500 million VND. "The ginseng is grown naturally, the roof is mainly made of temporary materials, so it cannot withstand strong winds" - Mr. Tuan said.

In Tra Cang commune, 49 ginseng growing households - mainly in hamlets 2 and 3, all recorded damage.
According to Mr. Nguyen Do Tri - Vice Chairman of Tra Cang Commune People's Committee, the inspection requires a lot of time because people have to clear fallen trees, record videos, and then report to the commune. "Currently, all households are affected, so the synthesis work may take several days" - Mr. Tri informed.

Meanwhile, Tra Linh commune has not been able to make initial statistics due to the large number of gardens and the wind has not yet calmed down. According to Mr. Ho Van Dang - Vice Chairman of Tra Linh Commune People's Committee, in village 4 alone, there is a garden that recorded more than 1kg of ginseng leaves broken - estimated to be equivalent to several hundred plants. In addition to being broken due to the storm, some gardens were also damaged by rats.

Mr. Tran Van Man - Vice Chairman of Nam Tra My District People's Committee said that the district has directed relevant departments and offices to urgently take action and evaluate in accordance with the instructions in Joint Circular No. 43 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
“The weather is still complicated, and access to ginseng growing areas is still difficult. We recommend that people and businesses proactively coordinate and promptly declare damages for timely synthesis and reporting,” Mr. Man emphasized.

Although Ngoc Linh ginseng has been broken and felled by hail and whirlwinds for many years, many growers say this is an "unprecedented" damage, because of unseasonal rain and wind, so people were passive in covering, leading to broken ginseng trees and many seeds falling off.
