At the 26th week of pregnancy, the pregnant woman T. was diagnosed with stage 1B3 cervical cancer. In a situation where she seemed to have to face a heartbreaking choice between her own life and the life of her baby, the pregnant woman was fortunate to receive advice and treatment from doctors at the Central Maternity Hospital according to the neoadjuvant chemotherapy regimen.

This is a modern protocol that helps control tumor progression while ensuring pregnancy safety before performing surgery at the appropriate time.

Under the close supervision of the medical team, the fetus developed steadily for 10 weeks after chemotherapy. When the fetus was 36 weeks old and was assessed as eligible for safe intervention, Dr. Nguyen Van Thang, Head of the Department of Gynecological Oncology, ordered a cesarean section combined with radical surgery.

According to Dr. Thang, the most difficult thing about this surgery is the very high risk of bleeding due to the increased blood vessel proliferation in the uterus caused by pregnancy. "We had to coordinate with multiple specialties and apply modern surgical techniques to ensure maximum safety for both mother and baby.

After surgery, the baby boy was born healthy, the mother's health is stable and continues to be closely monitored.

In the past, with similar cases, early termination of pregnancy was almost a mandatory option to treat the mother's cancer in time. However, thanks to the advancement of modern medicine in updating treatment regimens, doctors at the Central Obstetrics Hospital can completely treat cancer while maintaining pregnancy, opening up the hope of becoming a mother for mothers who unfortunately contracted the disease during pregnancy.

Dr. Nguyen Van Thang recommends that if cervical cancer is detected early, it can be controlled and treated effectively. Therefore, proactive gynecological examination, cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination are things that every woman should do.
