At least nine people were killed and 10 injured in a bridge collapse that sent two vehicles plunging into a river in Barguna district, about 180km south of Bangladesh's capital Dhaka.
Local police said the accident happened around 2 p.m. on June 22 local time. The bridge collapsed, causing a minibus and a tricycle carrying wedding guests to plunge off the bridge into the water. Search and rescue teams later recovered nine bodies.
Since the beginning of the year, Bangladesh has had a total of 6,929 accidents on roads, railways, and waterways, killing 8,505 people and injuring 10,999. Meanwhile, in 2023, the country had 7,902 deaths and 10,372 injuries in 6,261 road accidents nationwide.
