Accompanying students to "pass the gate"

- 2025 is the first year that the high school graduation exam will be organized according to the 2018 GeneralEducation Program (GEP) with many important changes. Could you please tell us what plans the Quang Tri Department of Education and Training has to help students adapt in time?

- The 2025 high school graduation exam not only tests pure knowledge but also evaluates students' ability to apply, analyze, synthesize and solve problems. In addition to the requirement of mastering knowledge, students need to have systematic thinking, apply it to practice and be creative in presentation; need to practice with exercises related to reality, practice critical thinking and reasoning ability.

In order to help students gradually get used to the innovations in the upcoming exam, right from the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri has directed subject councils through professional online conferences, organizing topics and building high school graduation review questions according to the correct format and exam structure of the Ministry of Education and Training .

From 2025, the structure of the high school graduation exam will include 3 formats for Natural Sciences : multiple choice, true/false, short answer; 2 formats for Social Sciences: multiple choice, true/false. Literature will be in essay format, including two parts: reading comprehension and writing.

At the same time, high schools in the area are required to strengthen school psychological counseling, help students reduce pressure and develop effective review plans. Most recently, the Department of Education and Training launched a peak period of "50 days and nights of breakthrough, conquering the 2025 High School Graduation Exam", demonstrating a strong determination to support students to achieve the best results.

- Can you tell us more about the purpose of this peak period?

- The peak period takes place from May to June 2025, focusing on the goal of firmly consolidating high-ranking subjects, improving the ranking of subjects, bringing Quang Tri out of the group of 10 provinces with the lowest average scores. Strive to achieve a high school graduation rate of 98% or higher in the whole province in 2025. In particular, high schools, vocational education and continuing education (VET) must reach or exceed the rate specified in Official Dispatch No. 1985/SGDĐT-GDTrH-GDTX dated August 21, 2024 of the Department of Education and Training on the implementation of a number of key tasks of VET in the 2024-2025 school year.

The peak period of "50 days and nights of breakthrough, conquering the 2025 High School Graduation Exam" was launched to continue to promote the effective implementation of the school year theme "Discipline, responsibility, innovation, improving the quality of education and training"; arouse the spirit of solidarity and creativity of the staff and teachers in performing tasks, working fields, teaching, striving to successfully complete the tasks of the 2024 - 2025 school year. Along with that, the industry strengthens coordination with parents in supporting students to review effectively, determined to achieve the best results in the 2025 High School Graduation Exam.

Be proactive in exam preparation

- The target of achieving a graduation rate of 98% or higher is a very impressive number. So, what are the key solutions that the Department of Education and Training will implement during this peak period to realize that goal, madam?

- To achieve the graduation exam results as planned, right from the beginning of the school year, the Department of Education and Training issued a document directing high schools to develop plans, organize review sessions, and teach additional knowledge for students. The focus is on promoting the sense of responsibility, solidarity, and creativity of the teaching staff in developing and implementing review plans, ensuring quality and comprehensive review results for each 12th grade student. Career counseling, helping students choose subjects suitable to their abilities and future orientations, is also emphasized.

In particular, during the peak period, the Department directed units and schools to develop plans, organize implementation, inspect and evaluate the review work for high school graduation in 2025. Require principals of high schools and directors of vocational education and continuing education centers to seriously implement solutions in high school graduation review work; take direct and comprehensive responsibility for the results of improving the review quality for each 12th grade student in 2025 of the school and center.

The results of implementing the quality indicators of the 2025 high school graduation exam are the main and basic content in reviewing and evaluating the level of task completion of affiliated educational institutions and the heads and deputy heads of units and schools.

At the same time, units and schools need to focus on reviewing and teaching additional knowledge for students at risk of failing graduation, thoroughly differentiating students according to their abilities to organize review and tutoring for students; focus on striving to exceed the committed quality targets, especially for the 2025 high school graduation exam results. Implement management, organize review, accompany and support grade 12 students until the end of this important exam.

- To make this campaign truly effective, could you please tell us what solutions the Department of Education and Training has proposed?

- Promoting the results and achievements in improving the quality of the high school graduation exam achieved last year, the Department of Education and Training has directed schools to continue the spirit of volunteering and dedication of teachers in the units and the spirit of volunteering to support and second to disadvantaged schools with low graduation quality. In the process of reviewing and researching, closely follow the format and structure of the high school graduation exam according to the 2018 General Education Program issued by the Ministry of Education and Training. Subject-specific groups/teams organize research, discussion, and draw experience from the reference graduation exam sets developed by the high school professional groups and other review materials to help teachers and students have review materials to ensure the best results. Encourage educational institutions to organize graduation exams and mock exams for grade 12 students; analyze the results of the exams and mock exams to evaluate the effectiveness of the content, teaching methods, and supplementary knowledge teaching for students by teachers. Inform, return test papers, and give mock tests carefully to each student so that they can accurately assess their own abilities, thereby determining the scope of knowledge, skills, and subjects that need to continue to focus on studying and practicing to achieve their goals. During the review process, it is necessary to do a good job of counseling and psychological orientation for students, helping them to be confident, interested, and strive to improve their learning efficiency after each mock test.

The Department has assigned the Secondary Education Department to preside over and organize periodic inspections, promptly grasp the actual situation to rectify and promote units to seriously and effectively implement the proposed plan. After the exam, the Department will also conduct statistics, analyze and have appropriate forms of rewards for collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements, creating a widespread motivation throughout the industry.
