This information was given by Mr. Lo Xuan Quyet - Head of the Vietnam Trade Promotion Office in Hangzhou ( China ) - at the Conference on disseminating commitments on food safety and animal and plant quarantine (SPS) in the free trade agreement between Vietnam and member countries in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), organized by the Vietnam SPS Office on the morning of November 23.

There is still much potential for export to the Chinese market.

At the conference, Mr. Quyet said that the Chinese market's demand for seafood, vegetables, milk and dairy products... is still very large, spending more than ten billion USD each year to import these items.

China's demand for tropical fruit consumption and import remains very large and is growing annually. It is forecasted that by 2026, fruit consumption and import will reach 319 million tons and 14.98 million tons, respectively.

Dragon fruit is currently the fruit with the largest proportion (value and quantity) among fruits exported to China and also accounts for nearly 100% of this country's dragon fruit imports.

"Coming soon, durian forecast will occupy the leading position among Vietnamese fruits in the Chinese market" - Mr. Quyet said.

Vietnamese agricultural products and food must comply with standards and regulations.

Regarding consumption trends, Mr. Quyet emphasized that Chinese people are increasingly interested in healthy products, high quality and clear origin.

Therefore, Mr. Quyet suggested that Vietnamese enterprises need to promote the advantages of geographical location, production costs, transportation, tropical products, etc. to exploit and meet the maximum potential and great demand of the Chinese market.

Organize production according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards, import country standards and strengthen management and supervision of quality and food hygiene and safety.

"Enterprises need to comply with regulations on quality standards, quarantine testing, packaging, traceability of the importing country, and focus on brand building..." - Mr. Quyet recommended.

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, in the first 11 months of 2023, fruit and vegetable exports are estimated to reach 5.2 billion USD, an increase of 70% over the same period last year and the highest level ever.

Durian is the fruit that contributes the most to growth in this group, accounting for 40% of turnover.

China is the country that imports the most Vietnamese fruits and vegetables with a total turnover of 3.2 billion USD in 10 months, up 2.7% over the same period last year and accounting for 66% of the market share.
