On the morning of May 10, Mr. Nguyen Hai Van, Deputy Head of the Hong Linh Protective Forest Management Board (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ha Tinh province) said that recently, harmful caterpillars have appeared in pine forests in the area managed by the unit, threatening to affect the productivity, growth and development of trees.

Initial inspection showed that harmful caterpillars appeared in about 500 hectares of pine forest, of which the high density was about 70 hectares.

Caterpillars appear in a natural cycle. Recently, the weather has been very humid, accompanied by erratic rain and sunshine, which is favorable for the caterpillars to thrive. Caterpillars appear, causing damage by eating away the leaves of pine trees. If the weather is hot, the pine trees can dry out and die.

Immediately after the discovery, in order to prevent the caterpillar from developing and causing widespread damage, the Hong Linh Protective Forest Management Board coordinated with functional units and mobilized human resources to spray pesticides 1-2 times at many locations, especially in areas with high worm density. However, due to the complex terrain of the pine forest, with pine trees 15m high, spraying pesticides was very difficult.

Hong Linh Protective Forest Management Board is assigned the task of managing, protecting and developing forests with an area of nearly 10,000 hectares (pure pine, mixed pine and acacia, natural forest...) and forestry land, spread across Hong Linh town and Thach Ha, Can Loc, Nghi Xuan districts ( Ha Tinh province).
