According to Mr. Ha Minh Hiep, acting Chairman of the Committee for Standards, Metrology and Quality ( Ministry of Science and Technology ), the rapid development of technology has promoted the need for standards activities to be closely followed. Recently , the Ministry of Science and Technology has closely followed the National Strategy on the Fourth Industrial Revolution to issue a List of high technologies prioritized for investment and development. Therefore, the development of standards for these technologies is increasingly necessary.
In particular, national standards for AI will help eliminate risks and system insecurity; enhance the capacity of organizations and businesses to penetrate the market, promote trade, enhance competitiveness and innovation.
“In 2024-2025, we will coordinate with the Ministry of Information and Communications and related ministries and sectors to focus on 17 national standards in AI. We must do it right away because if not, the promulgation of standards may be late compared to the development of practice,” said Mr. Ha Minh Hiep.
Along with that, the National Committee for Standards, Metrology and Quality will coordinate to develop 8 national standards on Cyber security, 3 national standards on Cloud computing, 5 national standards on IoT (Internet of Things), 3 national standards on Big data and 5 national standards on Nano technology.
It is known that since 1970, October 14 every year has been chosen by the world's three leading standards organizations, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as World Standards Day to honor the contributions and cooperation of thousands of experts and organizations around the world in the development and application of standards. In 2021, the three organizations agreed on the theme: "Standards for SDGs - Our shared vision for a better world" to demonstrate the role of standards in contributing tools to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
These are global, universal goals designed to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity, free from disease, war, and storms and safe in their lives. World Standards Day 2024 has been chosen to focus on Sustainable Development Goal 9: Sustainable Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.
Artificial intelligence is one of the fundamental technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, contributing significantly to creating a breakthrough in production capacity, enhancing national competitiveness, promoting socio-economic development, and ensuring national security.
