Students raise funds, repair homes for veterans

(NLDO) - Within 1 month, the Hoa Lua project of students from FPT Polytechnic College, Ho Chi Minh City, raised more than 80 million VND.

All the money raised by students was used to support the repair of a charity house for Mr. Pham Trung Be (2/4 grade disabled veteran), and to give gifts to veterans and 10 students who have overcome difficulties and have good academic achievements in Hoc Mon commune, Ho Chi Minh City.

Gratitude from the young generation

On August 7, the Department of Communication and Event Organization -FPT Polytechnic College, Ho Chi Minh City, in collaboration with Hoc Mon Commune Youth Union, organized a closing event for the Hoa Lua community project. This is a source-returning activity to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025). The project was implemented within the framework of the Communication Project subject - a subject that combines theory and practice for students.

Ms. Cai Thi Xuan Mai, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoc Mon commune, Secretary of the Hoc Mon commune Youth Union, highly appreciated the creative, dynamic and professional working spirit of the students over the past month.

"I was really impressed by the grand scale of the event and especially the large amount of money that the students raised. The gift is small but has great spiritual meaning. The project is a bridge for the younger generation to connect with history, an opportunity to listen to heroic stories from veterans" - Ms. Mai said.

Student Nguyen Trieu Man sent thanks to the locality and the veterans for giving students the opportunity to experience organizing events.

Nguyen Trieu Man, a student of class CE20306, representing the student groups implementing the project, said the project's success was thanks to the collective efforts of more than 200 students.

"This is a valuable opportunity for media students like us to approach and get acquainted with real events and have more contact. Thanks to that, we understand better about the members of the group and equip ourselves with the necessary experience for our future careers" - Man shared.

Home repair for veterans

In addition to giving gifts to veterans and students overcoming difficulties at the event, students from FPT Polytechnic College in Ho Chi Minh City also went to the house to give a house repair support amount of 60 million VND to Mr. Pham Trung Be - a 2/4 class disabled veteran.

MSc. Nguyen Thi Thuy Van, Head of Communications and Event Organization, Head of the Hoa Lua Project Organizing Committee, said that students wrote their own plans, designed communication campaigns, called for sponsorship, collected donations from the community, sold fundraising products, and directly surveyed, connected, and implemented volunteer activities in the locality.

The organizing committee honored and awarded certificates of merit to student groups with outstanding achievements in fundraising for the project.
