What does the Department of Transport say about the proposal to open a high-speed ferry route to Phu Quoc?

The Director of the Department of Transport of Kien Giang province has given preliminary comments on the proposal to open an expressway from Phu Quoc to Tho Chau and vice versa.

On the morning of February 3, Mr. Le Viet Bac, Director of the Department of Transport of Kien Giang province, said that the unit supports the opening of the Phu Quoc - Tho Chau high-speed ferry route for convenient travel for people.

Superdong - Kien Giang High-speed Ferry Joint Stock Company proposed to open a high-speed ferry route from Phu Quoc to Tho Chau.

However, up to this point, Kien Giang Department of Transport has not received any documents or official dispatches from the enterprise proposing to open the route.

Previously, the Office of the People's Committee of Phu Quoc City (Kien Giang) said that it had sent a document to the Provincial People's Committee, proposing to open a fixed passenger transport route from Phu Quoc to Tho Chau and vice versa.

This is a move after the People's Committee of Phu Quoc City received a document from Superdong - Kien Giang High-Speed Boat Joint Stock Company proposing to open a fixed passenger route from Phu Quoc to Tho Chau (Phu Quoc City) and vice versa.

According to the proposal of Supperdong shipping company, the train route will run continuously during the week during peak season, and three round trips/week during low season.

Currently, the Tho Chau - Phu Quoc route is operated by only Tho Chau 09 ship, but the schedule is up to 5 days/trip. The travel time is about 5 hours, with a capacity of 120 seats.

During peak times, the boat sometimes has to leave passengers behind due to exceeding the number of seats. When there is an urgent need, the islanders and soldiers want to travel but there are no boats, causing many difficulties.

Tho Chau commune has an area of about ^14km2 , including 8 large and small islands, located more than 100km south of Phu Quoc island and about 220km from Rach Gia city - the center of Kien Giang province.

Previously, many people in Tho Chau island commune had repeatedly made suggestions and petitions for the early establishment of a high-speed boat to serve the military and people on the island.
