Exciting 1st Tu Liem Ward Sports Congress, 2025

HNP - On November 5, at the Hanoi Indoor Athletics Palace, Tu Liem Ward held the Opening Ceremony of the 1st Tu Liem Ward Sports Festival in 2025. This is the ward's first major sports event since its establishment under the 2-level local government model.

Attending the opening ceremony were representatives of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports; leaders of the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tu Liem ward and nearly 3,000 people representing the sectors, forces, cadres, teachers and students of schools in the area.

The Congress opened with a solemn parade with the participation of 76 residential groups and 31 agencies, units and schools. One of the most impressive rituals was the traditional torch procession. The flame was lit from the headquarters of the Party Committee, People's Council and People's Committee of the ward - a sacred symbol of will, belief and spirit of sportsmanship and solidarity.

The person honored to carry the torch is athlete Nguyen Thanh Van - the winner of the World Wushu Gold Medal and awarded the First Class Labor Medal in 2024. Escorting the torch is athlete Nguyen Thai Ha Anh - the winner of the Bronze Medal at the 2024 World Taekwondo Championship and awarded the Third Class Labor Medal, and athlete Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh - the excellent winner of the National Youth Team Gold Medal and the National Individual Gold Medal.

Comrade Do Khac Dao - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ward Party Committee lit the traditional torch and handed over the sacred flame to the young generation, symbolizing the continuity and development of the sports movement.

Comrade Nguyen Thanh Binh - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tu Liem Ward, Head of the Congress Organizing Committee delivered the opening speech of the Congress.

Speaking at the opening of the Congress, comrade Nguyen Thanh Binh - Chairman of Tu Liem Ward People's Committee, Head of the Congress Organizing Committee emphasized: "President Ho Chi Minh once advised: "To preserve democracy, build the country, create a new life, everything requires good health to be successful". Therefore, physical exercise is not only about training the body, but also about training the will, discipline, and sense of civic responsibility".

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Tu Liem Ward affirmed that the Tu Liem Ward Sports Festival has important meanings as it is a festival of health and faith - health is the most valuable asset, a condition for good study, good work, good creativity. Besides, the Festival is also a measure of community discipline - discipline on the field is discipline in civilized urban life and is an environment to discover and nurture movement nuclei, creating a source of athletes for higher-level tournaments.

Comrade Nguyen Thanh Binh also sent a message to the athletes: "Compete with a noble spirit, honesty, respect for the rules and opponents. Winning is worthy, losing is a lesson. The most valuable thing is to try your best and maintain a good image of yourself, your neighborhood, your unit and your ward."

Over the years, the sports movement in Tu Liem ward has developed strongly and achieved many proud achievements. From 2022 to now, athletes in the ward have participated in competitions and won 385 medals at City, National and International tournaments, including 113 Gold Medals, 91 Silver Medals and 181 Bronze Medals. Notable athletes include Nguyen Phuong Linh (Handball), Do Quoc Luat, Giap Huy Hoang (Athletics)... who won medals at the 31st SEA Games held in Vietnam.

The highlight of the Opening Ceremony is the art performance with the theme "Brilliant Tu Liem - Blossoming Country" with performances of Festival Drums and Lion and Dragon Dances.
