“Ama's keepsake” is a tribute song to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South. |
The song “Ama’s keepsake” was composed by musician Danh Zoram, a son of the Co Tu ethnic group in Tay Giang (Quang Nam), currently living in Ho Chi Minh City. The song was born in special circumstances after Danh Zoram read the article of the same name by journalist Alang Nguoc in the Quang Nam Culture Monthly, March 2025 issue. In less than an hour of emotion, the musician completed the song and immediately sent the demo to journalist Alang Nguoc.
Inspired by the war relics that Ama (father - Co Tu language) left for the family, preserved for more than half a century, the angos, ammunition boxes, old photo albums, faded medals, the song is not only a personal story but also a common memory of a difficult but heroic era.

“The emotional connections touch each other’s hearts. Each time the lyrics are edited afterwards, it is to ensure that the lyrics stick to the real historical story of the brother’s family. Every time I listen to it, I am moved to tears,” musician Danh Zoram confided.
Sharing about the process of making this project, journalist Alang Nguoc said: “It was the historical story of my family and the meaning of April 30 that inspired me to overcome my limits to complete this project. I want to dedicate this work as a stick of incense of gratitude to the previous generation.”
The MV “Ama’s keepsake” was made with almost zero budget, thanks to the contributions of relatives, colleagues and the Co Tu community. The scenes took place right in the family space, with non-professional but passionate actors. It is this simplicity that gives the MV a genuine, close and touching look.

Not simply recreating images of war, the MV also sends a profound message to today's young generation to appreciate the precious peace , the achievement that was exchanged for so much sweat, tears and blood. This is also what the two Co Tu boys, Alang Nguoc and Danh Zoram, want to convey, especially at a moment when the whole country remembers and is proud of the day of national reunification.
With a passion for music since childhood, Alang Nguoc is no stranger to art. He has won many awards such as First Prize in the Central Highlands - Central Vietnam Journalists' Singing Festival, Encouragement Prize in the 2016 National Vietnam Journalists' Singing Festival... However, with "Ama's keepsake", he has taken a bigger step: turning a family story into an artistic product spreading historical value and gratitude.
