According to ComicBook , Steam has a new update that adds a warning to the user's terminal. Accordingly, this feature is like a countdown timer to warn about some operating systems that are about to be discontinued by Steam.
Steam 'flags' warning of end of support for older operating systems
The move comes as part of a plan announced by Steam earlier this year that the platform would drop support for devices running older operating systems like Windows 7 and macOS 10.11.
Accordingly, at the end of March, Steam announced that it would stop supporting Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 from January 1, 2024. In addition, operating systems such as Mac macOS 10.11 and 10.12 will end earlier on September 1, 2023.
If you’re running a modern version of Windows, you won’t have to worry about this Steam update. However, if you’re playing on an older operating system, you’ll see a red notification appear at the top of the Steam app to warn you of what’s coming. The notification will also include patch notes for the latest update for easier identification.
Steam warning about time remaining for older operating systems
There's still plenty of time for users to make changes before they lose access to the Steam client, but displaying the remaining time will serve as a constant reminder for users to pay more attention to updating their systems.
