According to Neowin , Helldivers 2 is becoming a gaming phenomenon this February. The science fiction third-person shooter, developed by Arrowhead and published by PlayStation Studios, is gaining popularity on both PC and PlayStation 5, attracting an increasing number of players.
Helldivers 2 is causing a sensation with its massive player base.
On Steam, Helldivers 2 reached its highest concurrent player count on February 17th with 333,827 gamers. It remains the best-selling game on Steam at $39.99, with even the premium Super Citizen edition at $59.99 ranking third.
Along with the massive player base, Helldivers 2 is facing server overload, suggesting Arrowhead may have underestimated the game's popularity. The developer announced on the game's official Discord channel that the surge in online players has caused 'some quest rewards to malfunction, some players to be kicked off ships or logged out'.
While the development team stated they are working to fix these issues, they also acknowledged that they are "having difficulty" scaling the servers to handle the massive number of players. The team stated: "We are forced to limit the number of concurrent players to approximately 450,000 to improve server stability. We will continue to work with our partners to increase this limit. If you experience progress-related issues, please restart the game to synchronize everything. Thank you for your patience."
