Hello!
For people with deep vein thrombosis, walking is one of the good and recommended exercises. When walking, the muscles in the legs (especially the calf muscles) act as a "pump" to help blood circulate back to the heart, helping to reduce blood stasis in the lower limbs. Therefore, you can absolutely continue to maintain the habit of walking every day.
However, to achieve the best results and avoid aggravating the condition, you should note:
- Walk at a moderate pace, do not try to walk too fast or too far, causing your legs to get tired.
- Wear compression stockings while walking if your doctor recommends it, to support venous circulation.
- Choose soft, well-fitting, low-heeled shoes to help reduce pressure on your feet and calves.
- Avoid walking on steep or rough terrain too much as it can increase the burden on the venous system.
- Avoid standing or sitting in one place for long periods of time; do some light exercise every 30-60 minutes if you have to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Avoid exercises that require straining, such as lifting heavy weights, as this increases pressure in the abdomen and can worsen varicose veins.
In addition, you should also combine other gentle exercises such as: ankle stretching, heel lifts, stationary cycling - these exercises are also very good for patients with varicose veins.
At the same time, you should have regular follow-up at medical facilities with vascular specialists to assess the disease progression and receive advice on adjusting your exercise regimen and appropriate treatment.
Wish you always healthy!
