( Quang Ngai Newspaper) - Author Vo Van Thuan, member of Tra Giang Poetry Club, member of the Provincial Classical Poetry Association, has just released his first poetry collection "Mien dew co", published by the Writers Association Publishing House.
The poetry collection “Mien suong co” by Vo Van Thuan is full of love for the homeland, the country, family affection, love between couples, love between teachers and students, friendship... At the beginning of the poetry collection, we encounter the image of the mother. The author transformed into a married daughter living far from home to express her own longing for her mother: “Oh mother, mother... I miss you so much!/ Every spring comes, tears wet my eyes” (Far from home, missing mother). Following the flow of emotions about mother is the emotion of love for the homeland and the country. Reading the poems “My hometown Nghia Hanh”, “My hometown Hanh Phuoc”, “Invite you to come”..., we will see the deep love that Vo Van Thuan has for his homeland. “That is my hometown! Please come/ Nghia Hanh people love the heroic land” (My hometown Nghia Hanh).
The poem “My Hometown Nghia Hanh” is a bit long but is tightly connected by the idea in the title. The poem, with simple, rustic words and rich imagery, introduces the land and people of Nghia Hanh in general, a sketch of the place where he was born and raised. Vo Van Thuan’s poetry is not elaborate or polished, but it is interesting to readers because the language, artistic style and ideas expressed are sincere and simple.
In addition to poems filled with love for the homeland, in the poetry collection “Mien suong co”, there are many poems written about the countryside and beautiful landscapes in all parts of the country, such as “Hue xua”, “Tuyet canh Ninh Binh ”... Reading these poems, we will see that Vo Van Thuan's intention is to praise the beautiful landscapes and be proud of the nation's patriotic tradition. “Ninh Binh's beautiful landscape is truly passionate/ Hoa Lu is also glorious/ The Lau flag rises with bravery/ The Vietnamese land resounds in the sky/ The history books still preserve it for thousands of years/ The people's hearts will forever be filled with respect/ Bich Dong - Trang An... oh so beautiful/ The three dynasties have built the empire” (Tuyet canh Ninh Binh).
Along with the feeling of love for the homeland and country, Vo Van Thuan's "Mien dew co" also has other feelings, which are the feeling of regret, love and nostalgia for the love affairs of a time gone by. "That season of love, we were still bewildered/ Watching the afternoon rain, the bubbles burst sadly/ Holding hands, we were very shy/ We gently walked to the end of the alley/ Our shoulders were cold and wet with a little bit of love/ The yellow banana leaves expressed our love/ We covered each other all the way/ Do you still have any lingering feelings?" (Remembering the memories of love).
The love story mentioned by Vo Van Thuan in the poem is very beautiful. Only those who lived in the same era as him can feel that beauty. Loving each other but still feeling awkward, holding hands but still feeling shy. The rhetorical question "Do you still have any lingering feelings?" affirms the lyrical character's endless longing for his lover. Many readers like this poem, because the images in the poem create a poetic space, innocent, pure, warm and sweet feelings. Reading the two verses "The yellow banana leaves express love/ We cover each other throughout the journey", reminds us of some verses by Nguyen Binh in the poem "District School": "The students of the district school that year/ I was the same age as you in my childhood class/ When we came home from school without a hat/ We shared a lotus leaf on our heads". The image of "yellow banana leaves" by Vo Van Thuan is the simple beauty of the countryside, a piece of nostalgic memories in the lyrical character's heart.
Reading the poetry collection "Mien suc co", we also see that love between couples is associated with love for the scenery of the four seasons. The natural scenery of the seasons of the year is like special slices passing through life, it just sinks in, and then the author bursts out into words: "The cold winter has come/ The pale sunlight, the wind and clouds tell the coming season/ The remaining bit of autumn love is also in a hurry/ The words of farewell are bewildered by the absent cold wind" (First day of winter).
Reading the poetry collection “Mien dew co” by Vo Van Thuan, we not only encounter the author’s heart but also the feelings and emotions of each person. This is also the feeling of the dear things that the author keeps in his heart: “The wind still gently teases the wild grass/ The mist still quietly covers the distant shore/ The sunset spreads the dream of the fragrant rice season/ Keeping the love of someone in the ivory shape” (Mien dew co).
