Specifically, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted continues to operate under the model of a specialized school, located in An Khanh Ward, Thu Duc City (currently the 2nd campus). Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School is organized and operates under the charter of a general school with many levels, located in District 1.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Department of Education and Training to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to develop the project and report in April. The project needs to have a specific roadmap, resolve issues related to personnel, finance, and expertise, and ensure that the two schools operate effectively, maintaining tradition and quality.
According to the previously submitted plan of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, regarding the roadmap: Phase 1 (from the 2024-2025 school year to 2026-2027), Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted will enroll and train students in specialized classes; continue to train students in non-specialized classes. Because students in these classes have been enrolled and organized in specialized high schools, they will continue to follow the regulations in Circular No. 06 of 2012 and Circular No. 12 of 2014 until they finish grade 12 as prescribed in Article 2 of Circular No. 05 of 2023 of the Ministry of Education and Training; Phase 2 (from the 2026-2027 school year onwards), the school will enroll and train 100% of students in specialized classes.
For Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School, from the time of establishment (school year 2024 - 2025) onwards, the school will continue to train secondary school students of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted; enroll and train secondary and high school students. Regarding the personnel plan, from the beginning of the school year 2024 - 2025, the school will have a principal and 3 vice principals, the team of teachers and staff of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted will be responsible for organizing the activities of Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School. In the school year 2024 - 2025 to the end of 2026 - 2027, a new principal and 1 vice principal will be appointed and 1 vice principal will be transferred from Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted to Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School to ensure the number of vice principals according to regulations.
Both schools will continue to use the existing teaching staff of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted (inter-school teaching staff) to maintain the training quality for Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School. From the 2027-2028 school year onwards, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will calculate the division of the teaching staff of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted to Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School so that both schools basically meet the quota of the number of employees and ensure that the number of employees assigned is not increased.
In the proposal for the policy of reorganizing the model of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted as mentioned above, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City assessed that after being established, Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School continued to implement the programs of secondary and high school levels and other models, meeting the needs and aspirations of students and parents regarding the enjoyment of the school's educational quality.
Thus, from the 2027-2028 school year onwards, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will calculate the re-division of the teaching staff for the two separated schools mentioned above. With the plans developed, consulted and approved, the recruitment of students into grade 6 by survey will continue in the 2024-2025 school year to continue to exploit the school's strengths in training secondary school students. The change may only be in the name of the school that students will attend.
Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted was established and enrolled students for junior high and high school in 2000. After 2 years, the school was converted into a specialized school, with its headquarters located in Ben Nghe Ward, District 1 and its second campus in An Khanh Ward, Thu Duc City. The school currently has 62 classes at the junior high level with more than 2,170 students; 44 classes at the high school level (specialized and non-specialized) with about 1,360 students.
The change in the model of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted stems from the recent request by the Ministry of Education and Training to Hanoi to direct the enrollment of grade 6 students at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted in accordance with regulations. The reason is that the Law on Education stipulates that specialized schools only exist at the high school level. The model of junior high school blocks in specialized schools is not covered by any legal regulations.
