Canteen temporarily closed to investigate cause of 50 students hospitalized

According to preliminary investigation results, in the early morning of October 9, a number of students in the dormitory of Lao Cai College, campus 1 (Bac Cuong Ward, Lao Cai City) experienced abdominal pain, vomiting, loose stools, and fever, and were taken to Hung Thinh General Hospital for treatment by teachers and their families.

As of the morning of October 10, the total number of students from the dormitory of Lao Cai College, campus 1, hospitalized was 50 people with the above symptoms.

Students with digestive disorders are being treated at Hung Thinh General Hospital, Lao Cai.

According to initial information, most of the patients developed symptoms and were hospitalized after having dinner on October 8 at the school cafeteria.

Lao Cai Department of Health has directed the Department of Food Safety and the Provincial Center for Disease Control to investigate and take samples for testing to clarify the cause.

The Lao Cai Provincial Food Safety Department has taken food samples stored at the kitchen of Lao Cai College and sent them to the Central Institute for Testing; the Lao Cai Center for Disease Control has also taken water and waste samples from patients for testing to determine the specific cause.

According to Lao Cai Department of Health, currently 50 students are being monitored and treated at the Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Surgery, Internal Medicine - Pediatrics of Hung Thinh General Hospital in stable condition, with no serious cases.

Lao Cai College has directed the temporary suspension of the kitchen at the canteen to coordinate with health authorities to evaluate and find the cause of the incident.
