Tam Kim commune orients its economic development based on local potential and advantages, focusing on developing crops such as cinnamon, medicinal herbs, and tobacco, in conjunction with support programs from the Central and the province. This is considered a sustainable direction, contributing to increasing income, improving living standards, and promoting socio-economic development in the area.
With rich natural advantages, Tam Kim commune has many medicinal herbs growing under the forest canopy such as: Morinda officinalis, Atractylodes macrocephala, Angelica sinensis, Polygonum multiflorum, Cau sam, Cardamom, Amomum ... This is not only an additional source of income for people during the off-season, but also opens up great potential for developing medicinal herbs economy. Not only exploiting nature, the commune proactively builds models of growing medicinal herbs with high economic value such as Cat sam (4 ha, Cam Tem hamlet) and Khoi nhung tim (1.6 ha, Na Leng hamlet); at the same time, planning medicinal herb areas concentrated in hamlets: Cam Tem, Khuoi Hoa, Na Ngan, Khuoi Phay, Na An, Ban Um, Tham Gau, Na Leng, Dong Tam, Roong Cun. The planning will help control quality, technical input as well as form a harvest - preliminary processing - consumption chain, increasing the value of medicinal products. Thanks to the project of the Galaxy Biotechnology Company Limited, cinnamon trees are planted on an area of about 1,011 hectares, covering all hamlets in the commune. The expansion of cinnamon acreage not only takes advantage of production forest land but also helps improve forest cover, reduce soil erosion and contribute raw materials for the essential oil processing industry.

In addition to cinnamon and medicinal plants, tobacco has been planted experimentally in two hamlets, Ban Um and Pac Dai, since 2005. It has quickly adapted to the climate and soil and has a much higher economic efficiency than rice and corn. Currently, the whole commune has about 208.2 hectares of tobacco, many households earn 100 - 200 million VND/ha, becoming the main crop shift direction of the commune. Ms. Nong Thi Manh, hamlet Na An, commune Tam Kim shared: My family grows nearly 4,000 m² of tobacco, earning nearly 100 million VND each year, many times higher than growing corn and rice. Thanks to tobacco, we have an additional stable source of income.
By focusing on developing key crops in the direction of commodities, Tam Kim commune has seen a clear change in income. In 2024, the average income per capita of the commune will reach 25 million VND/person/year, an increase of 119% compared to the previous term. Chairwoman of Tam Kim Commune People's Committee Ban Thi Thuong said: Immediately after the commune was established on the basis of merger, the commune determined that in order to reduce poverty and improve living standards, it must rely on strong crops. Cinnamon, medicinal herbs and tobacco are suitable for soil conditions and have a stable consumption market.
