Tan Long exploits agricultural and forestry potential

Tan Long Commune (Dong Hy) has a natural area of ​​over 4,430 hectares, of which agricultural and forestry land is over 3,300 hectares. In recent years, local authorities have focused on leadership and created favorable conditions for people to exploit land advantages to develop agricultural and forestry production, improve income and living standards.

Mr. Dam Van Xuan, Vice Chairman of Tan Long Commune People's Committee, said: The commune has over 1,580 households, with more than 7,060 people, of which over 80% are ethnic minorities, 90% of households are farmers . To help people develop production and increase income, the commune has promoted propaganda to raise awareness, mobilized people in 9/9 hamlets to focus on exploiting land advantages, introducing high-yield and high-value crop and livestock varieties into farming; strictly implemented disease prevention and control work.

Along with that, the commune focuses on effectively implementing agricultural and forestry extension programs and support policies of the State; mobilizing mass organizations to actively participate in mobilizing farmers to promote linkages, establish collective economic models to support each other in developing production and consuming products...

Thanks to the effective implementation of the above solutions, in recent years, the socio-economic development targets of the commune have all been achieved and exceeded the set plan.

In 2024, the commune's livestock sector will develop stably with a total herd of livestock and poultry reaching over 43,200 heads/year; the total area of ​​agricultural and forestry cultivation and production will exceed 4% of the plan.

The whole commune has 178/183 hectares of commercial tea area (an increase of 10 hectares compared to 2020), with an average annual output of 2,100 tons of fresh tea buds. The commune has 1,200 hectares of production forest, of which over 304 hectares have been granted FSC certification.

In particular, in the area there are 5 cooperative groups (THT) and cooperatives (HTX) operating stably in the field of agriculture and forestry, creating favorable conditions for people to develop the economy.

For example, Tan Long Agricultural Trade and Service Cooperative was established in 2022 and has been operating effectively since then with 11 members. Mr. Hoang Dang Vinh, Director of the Cooperative, shared: Realizing that the locality has many advantages, I boldly established the Cooperative to attract farmers who share the same interest in raising goats and chickens.

Over the years, the cooperative has been the focal point for the company to provide quality breeding animals and food sources for members, creating an environment for members to share experiences in raising and preventing diseases. Currently, the total goat herd in the commune has grown to 1,000 goats with 15 farms, of which the cooperative manages 10/15 farms.

Ms. Lang Thi Diem, a member of the VietGAP tea production cooperative in Ba Dinh hamlet, said: As a member of the cooperative, I have participated in many training courses, gained new knowledge and learned the value of new tea varieties, VietGAP tea. Up to now, my family mainly grows Long Van tea, which has a fresh tea price twice as high as other common tea varieties. I have also invested in machinery and opened a production workshop to increase the value of tea products and increase economic efficiency.

To provide people with more capital for economic development, Tan Long Commune People's Committee also coordinated with the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development and the District Social Policy Bank to effectively implement credit programs to support production.

In the Social Policy Bank alone, the total outstanding debt in the commune has reached 69.9 billion VND with 866 households borrowing capital. Through inspection and evaluation, all households have been using the loan for the right purpose in developing production and creating jobs...

Ms. Luc Thi Thu, a resident of Dong Luong hamlet, said: In 2021, thanks to a loan of 100 million VND from the Social Policy Bank, my family had capital to invest in livestock farming and plant 1 hectare of acacia. Thanks to effective production, my family's life has become less difficult.

The lives of people in Tan Long commune have gradually improved. In 2024, the commune had only 16 households escape poverty, currently the poverty rate is 10.2%, near-poor households account for 4.4%; the average income of people is 43 million VND/person/year (an increase of 8 million VND compared to 2021).

According to Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dam Van Xuan Commune: In the coming time, the locality will continue to mobilize people to maintain and exploit the advantages in agricultural and forestry production to contribute to hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and economic development.
