For many years, in his capacity as Vice Chairman of the Red Cross Association of the ward, he regularly coordinated with various organizations and neighborhood groups to promote and encourage people and businesses to participate in humanitarian movements. Mr. Toan always believed: "Learning from President Ho Chi Minh means first and foremost learning compassion, loving others as oneself." Therefore, he always lived a simple, approachable life and was dedicated to humanitarian work.

Specifically, in the "Compassionate Tet" program in 2024, he and the Red Cross Association of the ward mobilized donations of over 700 gift packages worth nearly 400 million VND. By the "Compassionate Spring - Sharing Tet" program in 2025, the number of gifts increased to nearly 800 packages worth 430 million VND. He also extensively promoted the gratitude and repayment movement, donating 239 gifts to beneficiaries of social policies with a total value of over 125 million VND.
Not only did he give gifts, in 2024, Mr. Toan and the Red Cross Association of the ward mobilized resources to repair 3 houses, and in early 2025, they continued to call for the repair of 1 more house for policy beneficiaries with particularly difficult circumstances, with a total value of 320 million VND.
Implementing the "Each organization, each individual is linked to a humanitarian cause" campaign, Mr. Toan, in coordination with various organizations, has sponsored three children affected by Agent Orange and one family in extremely difficult circumstances. For more than 10 years, this assistance has become a great source of encouragement for those less fortunate. Veteran Mac Van Toan shared: "I only hope that when I do good deeds, more people will join hands. A helping hand is a glimmer of hope." With this motto, Mr. Toan always takes the lead in every movement, whether it's fundraising for humanitarian causes or voluntary blood donation programs. He has donated blood five times, demonstrating the noble gesture of a veteran.
Sharing about the contributions of veteran Mac Van Toan, Mr. Nguyen Van Lam, Chairman of the Veterans Association of Ngoc Ha Ward, said: “With his enthusiasm, responsibility, and dedication to his work, Mr. Toan is always present whenever there is work to be done by the association. This spirit has helped the association's activities and the Red Cross movement in the ward consistently rank among the top performers for many years.” In recognition of his contributions over the years, Mr. Toan has received 23 certificates of merit and commendations from various levels and sectors. Notably, in 2024, he was honored with the Commemorative Medal for Humanitarian Work from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society.
For Mr. Mac Van Toan, the greatest reward is the joy of seeing the smiles of those he helps. Amidst the hustle and bustle of life, this veteran remains enthusiastic about doing good deeds with love, sharing, and compassion.
