See Aptera solar electric car run 482km without charging

Aptera Motors recently released a video updating the latest progress of its solar electric vehicle (SEV) in real-world conditions with a range of up to 482km.

Accordingly, the commercial solar-powered Aptera model has completed its first long-distance trip, traveling more than 482 km using only battery power and sunlight, without needing to be charged from the grid.

The solar-powered Aptera electric car has undergone important tests such as a downhill test to evaluate the aerodynamics, rolling ability and power consumption of the transmission system. This is also the first time the model has been tested on the highway.

The Aptera solar electric car's journey started in Flagstaff, Arizona, at an altitude of about 2,100 meters above sea level. Just before rolling, the car absorbed 300 W of solar energy.

Thanks to a combination of electric powertrain and renewable energy from the sun, the electric Aptera completed a journey of more than 482 km to its final destination in Imperial Valley, California.

Throughout the journey, this unique car attracted a lot of attention from passersby. Aptera has a three-wheeled design with a streamlined shape, inspired by the shape of a teardrop to optimize aerodynamics. Thanks to that, the car only has a drag coefficient of 0.13 - significantly lower than the Tesla Model 3 (0.23) or Volkswagen ID.4 (0.28).

Aptera has previously tested beta prototypes, but this is the first time a commercial version has been tested on a long-distance road. The company calls its product an “unplugged” electric vehicle, offering a promising future for renewable energy transportation.
