Dong Gianh "builds" happiness

Dynamic economic development

Although the circulation of storm No. 10 did not flood houses or roads, the rising water of the Red River caused more than 13 hectares out of 20 hectares of mulberry trees in Dong Gianh village to be submerged near the dike.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hop's house also had its mulberry area flooded recently. Remembering last year's mulberry season, she recounted clearly: "I had 4 sao of mulberry, got 2.3 quintals of cocoons, sold for 180,000 VND per kilogram, holding in my hand nearly 42 million VND, not including the cost of seeds and fertilizer. As for wages, farmers like me have to use our wages to make a profit...".

Talking about the latest mulberry crop, she lowered her voice regretfully: “This year, for the first time, all my silkworms failed, and the mulberry trees were flooded. How can I not be bored? But there is no point in being bored forever, so I will find another job: pulling out seedlings with everyone. How can I give up mulberry trees? I will continue to grow mulberry trees and raise silkworms.”

The sadness was quickly dispelled by Ms. Hop as she quickly picked up seedlings with everyone in the sunny nursery filled with laughter. Ms. Hop's story also mentioned the economic development direction that has long brought high efficiency to the villagers: growing seedlings. Dong Gianh currently has 110 households, 425 people. If mulberry trees and silkworms are chosen by more than 40 households for their livelihood, the number of households choosing to grow seedlings is not less, not to mention more.

Mr. Nguyen Van Luong - Head of Dong Gianh village proudly said: "People in Dong Gianh village are not willing to sit still, so they are always active and looking for jobs. Importantly, their thinking is quick, so they can grasp market needs very promptly. Therefore, at each point in time, villagers have a good income from buying and selling hair, scrap iron, doing business services, growing seedlings, growing mulberry trees to raise silkworms...".

That joy was also explained by Village Chief Nguyen Van Luong for another proud thing of the village over the years: "Dong Gianh has no social evils and is a bright spot in terms of security and order, I'm so happy! There are many factors to explain that, such as family foundation, propaganda work, especially the people are all hard-working and diligent in spending time working, producing, and developing the economy in a healthy way." The effort to spend a lot of time and effort on the economy and then be rewarded accordingly, the village has had an average income per capita reaching 65 million VND in 2024.

Cultural village, happy people

At noon, the road connecting the village to the river bank also takes a break, with less traffic noise and fewer people passing by. Pink peonies, yellow hibiscus... show off their brilliant colors in the sun. Beautifully built houses account for 90%, along with 10% solid wooden houses, erasing all traces of temporary and dilapidated houses. The gates are not closed as proof of what Village Chief Nguyen Van Luong said about the bright spot of security and order.

Party Cell Secretary, Head of the Village Front Work Committee Dang Thi Hoa shared: “Up to 98% of the village’s households meet the “Cultural Family” standard every year and have continuously achieved the title of “Cultural Village” for the past 5 years. The village’s well-off and rich households account for 80%, the rest have an average standard of living, especially there is only 1 poor household with 2 orphans. The improved economic level has created many favorable conditions for community activities.”

Citing specific evidence, Party Secretary of the village Dang Thi Hoa informed: Dong Gianh has just completed the expansion of 40 meters of concrete road from 2 meters to 3 meters, bringing 100% of the village roads to 3 meters wide concrete. Or the village effectively maintains the Scholarship Fund to encourage children to achieve good academic results every year, on the occasion of the recent Mid-Autumn Festival, 13 gifts were given to good and excellent students. Caring for poor households, every time Tet comes, the village does not let the children lack...

Mr. Nguyen Duy Them - a 55-year Party member in Dong Gianh happily said: "The economy is growing, the environment is bright - green - clean - beautiful, the neighborhood is close, the people are happier. Both public and private work are done well, I am very excited!"

Most recently, in the spirit of supporting households affected by storm No. 10, within 5 hours of the call, villagers donated more than 11 million VND for 3 "zero-dong" kitchens. Also during the storm, 7 cars of Dong Gianh residents worked tirelessly all night to help families in Dinh Xay and Pho Hop villages... escape the flood and then clean up their houses and the environment after the flood.

Village chief Nguyen Van Luong shared that storms come and go, although there are losses, the love and affection are increasingly complete. Last year, when dealing with the aftermath of storm No. 3, Dong Gianh people received many things they never imagined. Now, Dong Gianh people have brought those things to those in need.

Dong Gianh villagers have been, are and will continue the journey of "building" family and homeland happiness through a developed and increasingly improved economic life, a healthy and warm cultural and spiritual life, a digital life that integrates with trends and spreads widely.

After the flood season, the mulberry fields by the river are gradually reviving, the green shoots reach out to the sun and the green color becomes fresher. Happiness in Dong Gianh is built every day by each person with strong aspirations, steadfast faith, constant efforts and confident actions.
