Da Nang City Party Secretary Le Ngoc Quang: Coastal erosion prevention and control needs a comprehensive, long-term and sustainable approach

DNO - On the morning of October 28, Central Party Committee member and Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee Le Ngoc Quang came to survey the actual landslide sites in the coastal area of ​​Tan Thanh block (Hoi An Tay ward) and inspected the coastal erosion prevention project in Hoi An Dong ward.

According to records, due to the impact of storm No. 12 (Fengshen storm), the coastal area of ​​Tan Thanh block was continuously eroded by large waves 25-30m deep, extending over 100m.

Many sections of the embankment were broken by waves, the ground was severely eroded, materials and brick walls were washed into the sea, posing a direct risk to residential areas and tourist facilities inside.

City Party Secretary Le Ngoc Quang inspected each affected area, listened to detailed reports from local leaders and specialized units on the current state of landslides, as well as the progress of implementing temporary remedial and reinforcement measures.

Inspecting the coastal erosion prevention project in Hoi An Dong ward, City Party Secretary Le Ngoc Quang acknowledged and highly appreciated the proactive and responsible spirit of the city government and relevant units in promptly responding and implementing solutions to protect the coast.

At the same time, it is necessary to replicate projects and implementation experiences to increase the effectiveness of protecting coastal areas, especially residential areas and key tourism infrastructure.

The City Party Secretary affirmed that, in the face of complex developments of climate change and rising sea levels, coastal erosion prevention and control work needs to be approached comprehensively, long-term and sustainably.

Ward leaders need to continue to closely coordinate with departments, branches and professional agencies to research and propose fundamental technical solutions; promote propaganda, raise public awareness in protecting the marine environment and ensuring sustainable livelihoods for people in coastal areas.
