The threat of a siege of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad is becoming increasingly clear. According to the Military Summary channel on October 24, Moscow has issued an ultimatum to the Ukrainian garrison in the Pokrovsk region: "Surrender by Monday (October 27), or face total destruction." However, the Ukrainian side seems to have ignored Moscow's ultimatum, demanding that the AFU completely withdraw from the urban areas of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad by Monday, October 27. Meanwhile, the situation in the Pokrovsk region remains one of the most tense areas in the entire Ukrainian battlefield.
Fierce fighting between small assault groups and UAV units continues along the entire front line of the Pokrovsk front, from Zolotoy Kolodez to the area within the city of Pokrovsk. Meanwhile, the general trend shows that the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) are still advancing and the encirclement of the AFU in the city is tightening. After the strategic town of Rodinske, an important urban complex in the northern defense belt of Pokrovsk, fell under the complete control of the Russian army, the encirclement of Pokrovsk was thus closed, the “lid of the pot” was considered to have been slammed shut on the Ukrainian defenders still trapped in the city. The shock troops of the RFAF Central Group of Forces, broke into Mirnograd from the north and captured the mining area south of the city. The Russian side ordered the Ukrainian troops in the two urban areas of Pokrovsk and Mirnograd, within 48 hours to lay down their arms and surrender, ZOV Military channel stressed. With only hours left, it is likely that the Ukrainian side will not surrender but will continue to resist and retreat in an organized manner. They are said to have arranged "rear-guard" units, tasked with protecting the core force leaving the city. According to the RVvoenkor channel, the RFAF is attacking Mirnograd on a wide front and capturing neighboring villages in the east. Ukrainian military analysts have belatedly acknowledged the loss of Balahan, Kazatske and Promin, as well as the RFAF's solid consolidation of its position in Mirnograd.
“Russian UAV crews were spotted in Balahan, which could indicate enemy control of the village. Kazatske and Promin have also been captured,” said Ukrainian OSINT researchers. RFAF positions were also spotted in central Mirnograd, where they are moving in additional forces and strengthening their positions, moving further west. Suriyakmaps channel confirmed that after the RFAF overran the strategic town, which was just over 2km from the main Ukrainian supply (and retreat) route to the Myrnohrad urban area, the AFU launched a counterattack to reverse the situation on the Pokrovsk - Shakhovskoy front but failed. Military Chronicles published a report stating that on the Pokrovsk front, the RFAF Central Group of Forces is conducting the final battles for the key concentration area of Pokrovsk - Mirnograd. The situation of the Ukrainian defense forces here is rapidly becoming critical. "According to sources from both sides, the RFAF now controls most of the city. Demining operations are underway south of the railway, while isolated pockets of AFU resistance remain in the forested area near Troyanda. A significant success was the breakthrough in the Rog settlement, the meat processing plant and the waste treatment plant," the report said. "Logistically, Pokrovsk is practically cut off from supplies. The important E-50 highway from Pavlograd to Pokrovsk is under heavy fire control by the RFAF, making it impossible to transfer reinforcements and supplies to the Ukrainian garrison," the Military Chronicles channel commented.
Multiple sources report that AFU units are retreating in disarray from Pokrovsk amid the fall of Rodinske. Despite orders from the AFU General Staff to hold their positions, Ukrainian troops have begun to retreat from the fortified area north of Lysivka. Notably, the notorious Azov units are said to have refused to carry out counterattack orders and remain on the outer perimeter, despite all threats from the Command. The developments show that the battle for the key urban area is entering its final phase, opening up a large operational-tactical space for the RFAF Army Group Center. On the way to the Dnipropetrovsk region, only the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk defense area remains, which the AFU will no longer be able to defend as tightly as before. Even Western analysts, who are openly pro-Ukrainian, are forced to admit that the battle for Pokrovsk is approaching its final stage. Against this background, accusations are increasingly being leveled at the AFU Commander-in-Chief, General Oleksandr Syrskyi.
The reason is that instead of redistributing Kiev's remaining reserves and strengthening its positions in the Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, General Syrskyi continues to send reserves to the Pokrovsk and Dobropillya regions. This strategy is leading to increasing losses without any significant results. Meanwhile, the RFAF took advantage of the AFU's troop movements, shifting the front line westward, especially in the eastern part of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporozhye Oblasts.
