Once a name associated with electronic products such as televisions, microwaves or air purifiers... Sharp is now opening a new chapter with the LDK+ electric car model.

This famous Japanese electronics brand is stepping up its move into the electric car sector, taking advantage of its strong research and development platform and large-scale production capacity from partner Foxconn. The result of the cooperation is an upgraded version of the Sharp LDK+ electric car concept, which is set to be launched to the public at the Japan Mobility Show taking place at the end of October 2025.

Compared to the prototype launched last year, the updated Sharp LDK+ has a more realistic appearance, aiming for mass production. While the previous design tended towards the cab-over style (the driver's compartment is placed above the front axle), the new version switches to the body proportions of a traditional minivan, with a better balance between the driver's compartment and the passenger compartment.

The front of the car impresses with LED lights running horizontally, blending with the closed grille bearing the Sharp logo. The overall design is minimalist and neutral, accented with two-tone paint to increase recognition. The car has sliding doors on both sides and a vertical tail to optimize interior space.

The fact that the door handles and rearview mirrors are still present is a clear sign that the concept is approaching the pre-production stage. The interior space of the LDK+ is described by Sharp as “a living room when the car is stopped”. The flat floor structure and lack of central pillars help the cabin become spacious.

The driver's seat can be rotated backwards, combined with a folding table in the center console, creating a common living area for the whole family. The rear seats are arranged deep, making room for a resting space, and are accented with a warm-toned interior lighting system to create a relaxing feeling.

In the new version, Sharp has replaced the giant 65-inch screen that appeared on the previous concept with an integrated projector and a ceiling-folding screen, allowing users to quickly turn the cabin into a mini cinema or mobile office.

The LDK+ control center is the AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) platform developed by Sharp, which helps the car communicate and synchronize with smart devices in the home such as refrigerators, air conditioners or washing machines. This system not only allows remote control but also learns the car owner's usage habits, automatically adjusting the temperature, light or appropriate power consumption.

In particular, LDK+ supports V2H (Vehicle-to-Home) technology, allowing the car to supply electricity back to the family, combined with solar energy and electricity storage, turning the car into a true "mobile energy source". LDK+ is developed based on the chassis structure of Foxconn Model A, the electric minivan introduced last year.
6-714.jpg
Foxconn envisions the Model A as a flexible electric vehicle platform that can be adapted for a variety of uses, from home use to commercial transport. Sharp has not yet revealed the specifications of the LDK+, but it is widely speculated that the vehicle will share the same powertrain and battery pack as the Model A.

The commercial version of the Foxconn Model A is planned to launch in Japan in early 2027, then expand to ASEAN markets, where Sharp can take advantage of shared manufacturing infrastructure.
