To enhance the effectiveness of preserving and promoting heritage values, Dong Nai has temporarily assigned the management of relics to agencies, units and localities, contributing to linking preservation work with tourism development and traditional education .
Increase responsibility and clarify focal points in relic management
After implementing the 2-level local government model, some contents in the decisions on decentralization of relic management in Dong Nai province in the past time are no longer suitable. On October 3, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province issued a document temporarily assigning the management and promotion of the value of historical - cultural relics, scenic spots and cultural works in the area to agencies, units and localities.
In particular, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Nai to preside over and coordinate with agencies, units and localities to promptly carry out inventory and handover of relics; guide the management, protection and promotion of the value of relics. The assigned localities and units are directly responsible for protecting the site and space of the relics, ensuring the landscape, environment, security and order, fire prevention and fighting, and at the same time, propagandizing to raise public awareness of heritage preservation.
In 2025, Dong Nai will build many heritage profiles, advise the Provincial People's Committee to submit to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for recognition and inclusion in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List. These include the Long Tong Festival (Going to the Field) of the Tay people; the hand-pounding rice of the Stieng and M'nong people; and the New Rice Festival of the Stieng people. Photo: Contributor
Head of the Tan Lan Communal House's Board of Trustees (in Tran Bien Ward) Lam Van Lang said: The province's temporary assignment of relic management is a correct policy, helping localities to more easily preserve and promote the value of the relic. At the same time, they will see more clearly their responsibility towards the common heritage. Thanks to that, traditional festival activities, restoration, cleaning, and protection of the relic's landscape will be carried out more regularly and in a more orderly manner.
In Dak Nhau commune, there is currently a relic of Nua Lon Base. According to the representative of the commune leader, before implementing the 2-level local government model, this relic was under the management of the People's Committee of Duong 10 commune, the former Binh Phuoc province. After the merger, Nua Lon Base is under the management of the People's Committee of Dak Nhau commune. Nua Lon Base currently has no facilities or physical assets; the area is mainly natural forest, which has not been invested in construction, restoration or exploitation to promote the value of the relic. Dak Nhau commune has assigned the Commune Economic Department to look after and manage the relic.
Similarly, implementing the document dated October 3 of the Provincial People's Committee, Chairman of Nhon Trach Commune People's Committee Lu Thanh Nam assigned the Commune Culture, Information and Sports Center to manage and promote the value of Phuoc Thien communal house and Phu My communal house. These are two communal houses with a long history and culture, closely associated with the religious life of the community in Nhon Trach Commune in particular and Dong Nai Province in general. These relics have been and are being restored and embellished by the locality in recent times, serving the needs of sightseeing and learning of the people and tourists.
Promoting heritage values in new ways
Along with the improvement of the management mechanism, in recent years, the work of promoting the value of cultural heritage in Dong Nai has had many innovations and creativity. In particular, the propaganda and access to heritage activities have strongly shifted from "displaying to see" to "experiencing to understand". Dong Nai Museum has organized many experiential activities and thematic exhibitions such as: Bien Hoa pottery - past and present, ancient metallurgy in Dong Nai, or the Museum Study Hours Program, Journey to the Source... to help students approach history vividly. In addition, the museum also built a set of heritage education materials integrated into the extracurricular program, helping to nurture national pride in students.
