In recent years, Vietnam has enacted many important policies on gender equality, science and technology development, and climate change response. These guidelines emphasize the role of science and technology and the equal participation of women in sustainable development research. However, the connection between female STEM scientists and the community remains limited, lacking long-term cooperation mechanisms and spaces for knowledge sharing, preventing many scientific initiatives from being implemented in the field.

Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam HE Jim Nickel emphasized that promoting gender equality and empowering women is a consistent priority in the Canadian Government 's development cooperation, particularly in the field of climate change response. Strengthening women's leadership and voices in STEM, climate design, and decision-making processes is considered key to effectively addressing challenges related to natural disasters, water security, and sustainable development.

The highlight of the event was the launch of the Network of Women STEM Scientists for Climate, Community Development, and Gender Equality. The network aims to build an interdisciplinary networking space, promote knowledge sharing, support research, and work alongside communities in responding to climate change.
According to Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Ly, Chairwoman of the CECR Management Board, in the context of climate change increasingly impacting vulnerable communities, science needs to move beyond the laboratory to work alongside people in practical action. The formation of this network is a two-way empowerment mechanism, creating opportunities for women scientists to play a leadership role while helping communities access scientific knowledge in a more accessible and sustainable way.
During the discussion, delegates focused on the role of women in STEM sciences in climate change adaptation, gender mainstreaming in disaster risk management, and opportunities to enhance the application of science and technology in the community.
