Increase the maximum age of passenger car drivers

(Dan Tri) - According to the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, which takes effect from January 1, 2025, the maximum age for men driving passenger cars with more than 29 seats is 57 years old.

The Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety was passed by the 15th National Assembly on June 27 at the 7th session, effective from January 1, 2025.

Compared with the 2008 Road Traffic Law, the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety has many new points, including regulations on "Age and health of drivers participating in road traffic".

According to the provisions of Point e, Clause 1, Article 59, the maximum age of a driver of a passenger car (including buses) with more than 29 seats (excluding the driver's seat) or a sleeper car is 57 years old for men and 55 years old for women.

This is a notable new point compared to point e, clause 1, Article 60 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law, which stipulates that the maximum age for drivers of passenger cars with more than 30 seats is 50 years old for women and 55 years old for men.

In addition, drivers participating in road traffic must ensure health conditions appropriate to each type of vehicle they are allowed to drive.

The Minister of Health shall prescribe health standards and health examinations for drivers and operators of specialized motorbikes; periodic health examinations for car drivers; and establish a database on the health of drivers and operators of specialized motorbikes.

The Minister of National Defense and the Minister of Public Security shall prescribe the age of drivers in the military and police forces performing defense and security duties.
