PSSI terminated the contract with coach Patrick Kluivert on October 16. This was the result of the Indonesian team's disappointing performance when they lost both matches against Saudi Arabia and Iraq in the 4th round of World Cup qualifiers.

Up to now, PSSI has not announced a successor. In that context, the Dutch media suddenly spread the information that coach Van Gaal is about to make an important announcement.
According to the 433 newspaper (Netherlands), this veteran coach will hold a press conference on October 20. Details about the content of the press conference have not been revealed, but many people believe that it may be related to the possibility of Van Gaal leading the Indonesian team.
It is worth mentioning that in early 2025, Coach Van Gaal was contacted to take on the role of Technical Director of PSSI. However, later, this deal was not as successful as expected.
Coach Van Gaal is 74 years old this year. He is one of the most experienced strategists in Europe. The coach, born in 1951, has led a series of famous clubs such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Man Utd.
As a national team coach, Van Gaal has led the Netherlands team three times, the most impressive achievement of which was winning third place at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. At the 2022 World Cup, he led the Netherlands team to the quarter-finals but lost to Messi's Argentina.

Coach Van Gaal was Kluivert's teacher at both the Dutch national team and Barcelona. Kluivert himself was also Van Gaal's assistant coach at the 2014 World Cup. Therefore, the former Indonesian national team coach's style was greatly influenced by his famous teacher.
Although Van Gaal is a famous coach, many people are concerned about his ability to adapt to the Southeast Asian football environment. In recent years, many European coaches such as Kluivert and Troussier have failed to apply the ball control style of play to Southeast Asian teams such as Indonesia and the Vietnam national team.
