Many positive results

In March 2025 and the first quarter of 2025, the city's socio-economic situation achieved many positive results, quite comprehensive in many fields. GRDP in the first quarter of 2025 is estimated to increase by 7.15% over the same period last year. The index of industrial production (IIP) in March is estimated to increase by 9.81% over the previous month and by 4.56% over the same period. In the first quarter of 2025, IIP is estimated to increase by 6.78% over the same period last year. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in March is estimated to reach over 11,770 billion VND, up 12.85% over the same period; accumulated in the first 3 months of the year, it is estimated to reach over 35,267 billion VND, up nearly 13% over the same period. Total export turnover of goods and services in March reached 213.9 million USD, up 15.2% over the same period; In the first 3 months of the year, the total revenue was over 633 million USD, an increase of 17.24% over the same period. Tourism continued to develop steadily, in March the city welcomed over 414,000 visitors, bringing the total number of visitors and tourists in the first quarter to an estimated over 1.66 million, an increase of 4% over the same period, reaching 25% of the plan.

The city has been actively implementing trade connection activities and promoting supply and demand in the first months of 2025.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Vice Chairman of Phong Dien District People's Committee, said: The socio-economic situation of the district in March and the first quarter of 2025 was stable, the targets met the set progress. For example, the value of agricultural production (mainly rice and fruit trees) reached over 27% of the plan. The district has 19 tourist attractions, 5 relics, from the beginning of the year until now, especially the Lunar New Year, attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists with 7,000 visitors. In addition, administrative reform and digital transformation continued to achieve many important results. The cultural and social fields were focused on, policies for people with revolutionary contributions, ensuring social security and the material and spiritual life of the people were concerned; construction and repair of 61 temporary and dilapidated houses were started, striving to basically complete before April 20.

In Ninh Kieu district, in addition to economic development, the district also prioritizes the development of traffic infrastructure and urban beautification. According to Mr. Huynh Trung Tru, Chairman of Ninh Kieu District People's Committee, for regular maintenance and repair of bridges and roads, the district is implementing 3 sidewalk renovation projects on 13 roads with a total cost of 36.5 billion VND and 4 projects to renovate 31 alleys with a total cost of 31.5 billion VND. Currently, the progress of sidewalk renovation has been completed on 8 routes, according to the plan to complete 12/13 routes before the April 30 holiday, the remaining route Hoa Binh Avenue strives to be completed before May 15 to celebrate the Party Congresses at all levels. The projects to renovate 31 alleys under the State and people's methods are located in An Binh, An Hoa, An Khanh, Cai Khe, Hung Loi and An Cu wards. Construction progress to date has completed 21 alleys, 3 alleys in An Khanh ward have not been implemented due to people's requests, the remaining 7 alleys in An Hoa ward are under construction and are expected to be completed before May 15. Regarding the upgrading and renovation of roads, the district is focusing on the construction of the project to upgrade 30/4 Street from Mau Than Street to Tran Van Hoai Street; upgrading and expanding Tran Van Hoai Street, Ninh Kieu District; upgrading Nguyen Trai Street (from Ninh Kieu Bridge to Hung Vuong Roundabout); upgrading and expanding Noi Street from Lo Mo Street to Tran Nam Phu Street; the project to renovate and expand 5 key intersections in Can Tho City.

Efforts to achieve goals

In addition to the achieved results, the city's socio-economic development in March and the first quarter of 2025 still has some difficulties and limitations such as industrial production and export activities, although growing compared to the end of 2024, some businesses are still facing difficulties and there is still a lot of inventory. Demand for goods consumption has decreased because people tend to tighten spending; GRDP growth rate has not met expectations; investment attraction, especially foreign direct investment, has not had positive changes...

Step by step to overcome difficulties, complete the plan and targets set in 2025, Mr. Le Thanh Tam, Director of the Department of Finance, said: The city resolutely and effectively implements tasks and solutions to accelerate the disbursement of public investment capital, striving to disburse the public investment capital plan in 2025 to reach 95% of the allocated capital plan. Special priority is given to investment in completing and coordinating the completion of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway phase 1 - Component project 2 passing through Can Tho city; the North - South expressway in the East phase 2021-2025, the Can Tho - Hau Giang component project; the Western Ring Road; the investment project to build, upgrade and expand provincial roads 923, 917, 918, 921... Along with that, continue to implement solutions to improve the investment and business environment; remove difficulties and obstacles for production and business, support enterprises, investors, investment projects in the city, especially the investment project to build and operate infrastructure of Vinh Thanh Industrial Park Phase 1 (VSIP Can Tho), Aeon Mall commercial center project...

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, in April and the second quarter of 2025, the district will continue to focus on disbursing capital for basic construction, striving for a disbursement rate of 50% by June 2025. In particular, in April 2025, Phong Dien will focus on environmental landscape sanitation combined with accelerating construction progress and repairing inter-commune roads, promoting good services at tourist destinations to attract tourists on the occasion of April 30 and May 1. Other districts also said that they will resolutely organize the implementation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation and Resolution No. 03/NQ-CP dated January 9, 2025 of the Government on the Action Program to implement Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW. Promote comprehensive and extensive digital transformation in all sectors and fields, creating new momentum for economic growth based on science, technology, data, digital technology and innovation; build open digital institutions, modern digital infrastructure, widespread digital economy, and ensure network security and safety.

Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Chairman of the City People's Committee, requested the city's departments, branches, and sectors and the People's Committees of districts to proactively and seriously carry out the assigned tasks in Plan No. 45/KH-UBND dated March 4, 2025 on implementing the Economic Growth Scenario Plan (GRDP) in 2025, striving to achieve the highest economic growth rate of the city in 2025. At the same time, continue to review the work related to the arrangement of the apparatus organization according to the conclusions of the Central Committee, the Resolution of the National Assembly, the direction of the Government, the Prime Minister, the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, not to let the activities of agencies and units be interrupted or miss work, especially work directly related to people and businesses. Relevant parties promote project implementation and progress of disbursement of public investment capital; Focus on promptly resolving difficulties and obstacles of projects according to each group of issues in the industry, field and locality, creating clear changes in the second quarter of 2025; strengthen management, prevent revenue loss; review and exploit new sources of revenue. Along with that, the city is determined to basically complete the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the area before April 30, 2025 to make achievements to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification.
