The Ministry of Industry and Trade said it received a transfer note on August 10 from the Government Office regarding the handling of the proposal to pilot the implementation of the Thang Long Wind Project/Thang Long Wind 2 Project of Enterprize Energy Group (UK).
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , regulations on piloting offshore wind power projects have not yet been issued by competent authorities. Therefore, the Ministry believes that "there is no basis to resolve the request of Enterprize Energy Group".
In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade also cited Document No. 4286/VPCP-CN dated June 10, 2023 of the Government Office on performing a number of tasks to synchronously and effectively implement Power Plan VIII.
Accordingly, the Prime Minister directed "to conduct a pilot study to assign Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and qualified domestic enterprises to implement offshore wind power projects according to the conclusion of the Government Standing Committee in Notice No. 64/TB-VPCP dated May 1, 2023 of the Government Office".
The conclusion of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha at the meeting held on September 8 also directed the study to implement the conclusion of the Government Standing Committee and the Prime Minister on the pilot assignment of EVN and qualified domestic enterprises to implement offshore wind power projects.
Power Master Plan VIII sets a target of bringing offshore wind power capacity in Vietnam to 6,000MW by 2030.
The Thang Long Wind project was announced to have an expected investment of up to 11.9 billion USD for 3,400 MW.
This project, also known as Ke Ga offshore wind power (Binh Thuan province), was proposed for investment by a consortium of energy companies, led by Enterprize Energy Group.
