Speaking to VietNamNet reporters, many domestic travel companies said that the rate of tour bookings for Christmas and New Year 2026 has increased compared to the same period last year, especially in the overseas market.
According to statistics from BestPrice Travel, Vietluxtour, and Hoang Viet Travel, Vietnamese tourists prefer domestic tours costing 5-10 million VND per person (for 3-4 day programs) and international tours costing 12-20 million VND per person (for 4-5 day trips).
"Medium-sized tours, lasting 4-5 days, are leading in booking rates, especially themed programs such as winter tours, family vacations , and tours combining cultural experiences," said Ms. Tran Thi Bao Thu, Marketing and Communications Director of Vietluxtour.
In addition, Vietnamese tourists tend to prioritize tours that don't involve shopping, have concise itineraries, direct flights, and offer many experiences for families and young children, according to the assessment. BestPrice Travel.
Phu Quoc is the hottest spot in the country.
According to domestic travel companies, Phu Quoc ( An Giang province ) is the most popular destination for Vietnamese tourists during the 2026 New Year holiday.
Data from the Booking platform also shows that Phu Quoc Island leads in searches by Vietnamese tourists for the upcoming Tet holiday, an 86% increase compared to the same period last year.
Following Phu Quoc, Da Lat and Ho Chi Minh City ranked second and third respectively in the top 10 most popular domestic destinations. In the Central region, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Vung Tau, Mui Ne, and Hoi An remain familiar names. In the North, Hanoi and Sa Pa are the two representatives on this list.
Not only does Phu Quoc attract domestic tourists, but it is also the most searched-for destination in Vietnam among international visitors, according to data from the travel platform Agoda.
International searches for Phu Quoc for Christmas and New Year holidays increased by 47% year-on-year. According to Agoda, the island attracts visitors thanks to its white sandy beaches, clear blue waters, rich natural ecosystem, and a system of resorts and amusement parks suitable for multi-generational family vacations.

In early December, Phu Quoc received the title of "World's Leading Natural Island Destination" for the fourth time at the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2025.
Furthermore, Bai Kem Beach was honored as the "World's Leading Regional Beach 2025"; the Kiss Bridge as the "World's Leading Iconic Tourist Bridge"; and Sunset Town became the "World's Leading Iconic Tourist Destination 2025" for the second consecutive year. These awards contribute to Phu Quoc's increasing popularity during the year-end tourist season.
Thailand and China are the most popular destinations for overseas travel.
Branavan Aruljothi, Country Director of Booking Vietnam, noted that Vietnamese tourists' travel behavior at the end of the year shows a clear divergence. One group prioritizes convenience and relaxation at familiar domestic destinations, while the other seeks new cultural experiences through short trips in the Asia-Pacific region.
For international travel, Asian destinations dominate the search results, led by Bangkok (Thailand), Tokyo (Japan), and Seoul (South Korea). Paris (France) is the only non-Asian destination in the top 10 and recorded a search growth of over 50% year-on-year, thanks to the allure of Christmas and New Year.
Thailand remains a popular destination due to its affordable cost, convenient transportation, and vibrant nightlife.
China continues to show strong appeal to Vietnamese tourists. According to Agoda, among the top 20 most searched overseas destinations for Vietnamese families for the period December 2025 - January 2026, Shanghai recorded a 58% increase, and Beijing a 59% increase.
Vietnamese travel agencies are simultaneously introducing many new products for tourists during the New Year holiday in China, such as tours to Taipei – Taichung – Kaohsiung or Shanghai – Hangzhou – Wuzhen. Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang province, is not a new destination but is still one of the most popular during this holiday.

In addition, to meet the travel and leisure needs of guests who can only take one day off during the 2026 New Year holiday, some companies have launched attractive 24-hour packages.
BestPrice introduces Halong Bay cruise packages – 5-star resort stays with overnight experiences on the bay for families and couples; or "staycation" packages in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City combining 5-star hotel stays, fine dining, and spa treatments.
These products are favored by high-income, busy travelers who still want to take time off.
