Phu Quoc, an island once known primarily for its white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, is on the verge of a historic transformation. Being chosen to host the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum in 2027 is not only a diplomatic event, but also a catalyst to elevate the island to a new level on the global tourism and economic map.
A recent seminar at the Sun Signature Gallery Convention Centre in Sunset Town outlined an ambitious vision for the island's future, revealing unique experiences awaiting visitors.

Becoming an international MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism hub.
One of Phu Quoc's key development priorities is to become a leading destination for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism. To serve APEC 2027 and future large-scale events, a new Convention and Exhibition Center is under construction.
The highlight of this project is the ballroom, which is expected to be the largest in the world , promising to provide a world-class event space capable of competing with leading convention centers in the region.

Towards a green and sustainable destination.
Sustainable development is a core objective in Phu Quoc's strategy. The local government has committed to achieving "Net Zero," reducing net emissions to zero. Visitors to the island can now experience the first steps of the "Green Transport" initiative with a 100% electric bus system on major routes.
In the future, tourists will enjoy a green tourism environment, green governance, and green living spaces when the Green Transformation project is completed, expected in the first quarter of 2026. This is an effort to preserve the natural beauty of the island while developing its economy.

New and diverse travel experiences
Phu Quoc in the future will be more than just a beach destination. Experts have outlined new pillars of tourism products, promising richer experiences for visitors:
- Luxury wellness and wellness tourism: Focuses on luxury healthcare, therapy, and relaxation services.
- Nighttime economy: Developing vibrant and safe nighttime entertainment, shopping, and culinary activities.
- Cultural and community-based tourism: Explore the local life of the islanders and learn about traditional crafts.
- Creative tourism: Combining tourism with artistic, creative, and technological activities.

A more open policy for international tourists.
To attract global tourists, especially high-quality visitors who stay for extended periods, visa policies are being proposed to be relaxed. Currently, Phu Quoc offers a 30-day visa-free stay for international visitors. However, experts suggest increasing this period to at least six months and researching the implementation of a separate e-visa system to maximize convenience.
In addition, opening more direct flights from key markets is also a top priority to enhance Phu Quoc's connectivity with the world, making it easier for tourists to travel.
With groundbreaking strategies and substantial investment, Phu Quoc is on its way to becoming a new symbol of Vietnam's development, a destination not only for relaxation but also for work, creativity, and experiencing world-class services.
