Vietnamese citizens traveling to Thailand will be exempted from a 60-day visa upon entry into Thailand. This is a unilateral decision of Thailand applicable to Vietnam that was just published in the Royal Gazette of Thailand on the evening of July 15.

According to the Official Gazette, the Prime Minister of Thailand has decided to sign and approve the list of Vietnam and 89 other countries whose citizens, when temporarily entering Thailand, will enjoy a 60-day stay policy without having to apply for a visa before the trip.
In addition to traveling, citizens of these 90 countries can also enter the country to work or conduct short-term business in certain industries according to Thai regulations.
Citizens of countries that are eligible for this 60-day stay policy may apply for further stay in Thailand if they deem it necessary, but will be granted a stay permit for no more than 30 days. They may also continue to apply for stay in Thailand, but must have a different purpose of stay from the original purpose of stay when entering Thailand and must be approved by the relevant Thai authorities.
The effect of this announcement on visa exemption from Thailand is from the date of signing, i.e. from July 15, and not all ASEAN countries enjoy this status.
Thailand said that the visa exemption for stays of no more than 60 days for citizens of 90 countries is aimed at attracting tourists from these countries to quickly return to travel and stay long-term in Thailand.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, in 2023, 1,033,688 Vietnamese tourists visited Thailand, the 7th largest number among countries and territories in the world and the 2nd largest, after Malaysia in ASEAN, with citizens traveling to Thailand.
A large number of Vietnamese tourists come to Thailand today for many purposes other than traditional tourism, such as discovering new experiences, relaxation, medical treatment, ecology, or historical and spiritual culture.
