According to the original plan, public and non-public medical facilities in the former Thai Nguyen province will implement electronic medical records in 2027, but with the spirit of urgency in applying digital transformation, innovation, and technology application, the provincial Party Committee and government direct the implementation of electronic medical records to be completed before June 30, 2025.
Implementing the direction of the province, the Department of Health of Thai Nguyen province has completed the Steering Committee, developed a plan to deploy electronic medical records, assigned specific tasks, and completion time at medical examination and treatment facilities. Medical facilities develop detailed plans, self-review, upgrade infrastructure, supplement missing equipment, train staff and work closely with software suppliers.
To implement electronic medical records, careful preparation of information technology is required, so many medical examination and treatment facilities have actively repaired, upgraded, and mobilized resources to supplement servers and terminals, ensuring that the infrastructure meets the requirements. Issues related to information security and safety are also given special attention according to the instructions.
The leaders of Thai Nguyen Eye Hospital resolutely directed the IT staff to work day and night, racing against time, learning while working to complete the project on schedule and with quality, and bringing electronic medical records into daily medical examination and treatment.
Deputy Director of Thai Nguyen Department of Health Hoang Hai said that by the end of 2024, only 3 affiliated units in the province had completed the appraisal of electronic medical records, but in just the first 5 months of 2025, all hospitals, including private hospitals, and facilities in the province had completed and implemented electronic medical records. This demonstrated the great efforts of each hospital, the result of the strong direction and consistent support from the Department of Health.
Completing electronic medical records at medical examination and treatment facilities in the old Thai Nguyen province contributes significantly to the management of medical examination and treatment activities, helps to clarify stages and indications, saves time and effort for both doctors and patients. At the same time, creating a basis for data connection between hospitals in the province with each other, between hospitals in the province and Bach Mai Hospital helps to shorten time and reduce costs for patients and hospitals.
According to Deputy Director of Thai Nguyen Department of Health Hoang Hai, by connecting data with 54 parameters (information), when a patient is transferred to a higher level, doctors at higher levels can access complete medical records without having to rely on traditional paperwork as before, contributing to improving the quality of treatment and reducing unnecessary costs for patients.
As of July 1, no hospital in the old Bac Kan province has completed electronic medical records. After the merger of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan into Thai Nguyen province, Bac Kan General Hospital has completed the electronic medical records assessment and is preparing to apply them; Bach Thong Medical Center is preparing to assess electronic medical records, other medical centers will complete the electronic medical records before August 15, and at the same time, connect data as with medical facilities in the old Thai Nguyen province.
