In recent times, the elderly across the country have enthusiastically and exemplaryly participated in actively contributing ideas to the draft documents of Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term, especially the draft documents of the 14th National Party Congress. This is a demonstration of the great responsibility of the elderly towards the Party, the State and the socialist regime.

The 14th National Party Congress is an important milestone in the development process of our country, opening a new stage, a stage of promoting industrialization, modernization of the country, deep integration, rapid, sustainable development, prosperity and happiness.

Speaking at the Conference, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized that this is not only an activity of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, but is truly a broad political democracy forum in accordance with Ho Chi Minh's ideology and the Party's viewpoint that "People are the root, the elderly are the pillars of the nation".

Chairman Nguyen Thanh Binh also hoped that delegates would contribute many ideas to the four draft documents, especially the draft Report summarizing 40 years of Renovation. For the draft Political Report, it is necessary to closely follow the Congress theme; the goals, development perspectives, tasks and solutions, and breakthroughs to bring the country into an era of strong, civilized, prosperous, and happy development have demonstrated the will of self-reliance, self-reliance, and great national aspirations or not.

In particular, focus on giving comments on the draft content on the elderly with three pillars of work for the elderly: protecting, caring for, and promoting the role of the elderly in the context of population aging; there needs to be a unified viewpoint, strong enough mechanisms and policies for the elderly to continue to contribute more to the cause of building and firmly protecting the socialist Fatherland in the new era.

Regarding the draft Summary of 40 years of Renovation, it is necessary to focus on giving comments on evaluating the great achievements of historical significance, contributing to raising the stature of the national foundation, affirming Vietnam's position and prestige in the international arena; giving comments on valuable lessons learned over 40 years of Renovation, which need to continue to be inherited and promoted in the new era.

Most noteworthy is the contact to contribute ideas on the content of the role of the Fatherland Front in gathering and consolidating the great national unity bloc, the core of which is the flesh-and-blood bond between the people and the Party; in which the elderly are truly a social force rich in political mettle, loyal and steadfast to the cause of revolution, innovation, and sustainable development of the country, under the leadership of the Party.

According to statistics, Vietnam has officially entered the aging population stage since 2011 and is expected to become a country with an aging population by 2036. Currently, more than 13% of our country's population is 60 years old or older and this number may exceed 20% in less than 15 years.

The rapid aging rate has given Vietnam only about two decades to transition from an "aging society" to an "aged society" - much shorter than developed countries like Japan or South Korea.

Contributing comments to the documents, Professor-PhD Nguyen Quoc Suu, Member of the Central Theoretical Council, Deputy Director of the Academy of Public Administration and Management, suggested that the 14th Congress Documents should have clearer directions on promoting the role of the elderly, building a national strategy to respond to population aging, associated with retraining middle-aged workers, creating opportunities for the elderly to continue working, participating in production, business or volunteering appropriately. This is both a social security solution and a sustainable economic-social-humanitarian solution.

It can be seen that population aging in Vietnam is having a profound impact on all areas: labor, employment, productivity, public finance, health, social security and family structure. Without good preparation, rapid aging can slow down growth, put great pressure on the budget, insurance system, health services and change the structure of the working population.

Delegates said that there needs to be timely adaptive policies to help turn challenges into opportunities, promote "old age advantages", and build a dynamic, creative and humane silver economy.
